Maybe that's why the option never comes up. Thank you for that info!

That's totally why! I had an inventor that also sculpted and once I had her pick up scrap, from the junkyard for the inventing, she was able to sculpt in metal.  ;)

Chapter 13: Love Is A Metal Shoot

Sienna wanted to build a metal sculpture, but she needed scrap first. She headed over to Grady's Junkstop, the old junkyard on the outskirts of Sunset Valley.

She only intended to pick up some scrap, but she met Xander Clavell instead.

They talked for a bit. Xander told Sienna he was a decoy. Sienna didn't like the idea of being friends with someone in the criminal career track, but Xander seemed nice. Plus, if he was only a decoy, he wasn't really dangerous, was he?

They were friends before Xander left and Sienna finally gathered some scrap from one of the junkyard piles.

She collected 38 pieces of scrap, but it turned out she only needed three for a metal sculpture. She'd have a good supply for a while.

The only two sculptures Sienna could make were a chair and the metal stallion, which looked more like a dinosaur in her opinion.

Meanwhile, Carina was fishing in the graveyard, hoping to catch a perfect deathfish or vampire fish. Kaelyn was meditating just a few feet behind her, so she could be out after curfew.

Carina caught a lot of deathfish, but not a single perfect one.

At 5 AM, Carina gave up. Kaelyn finished meditating and went home while Carina stopped at the grocery store to sell her fish. The amount they sold for pushed Carina to level 5 of her angeler career, Saltwater Initiate.

It suddenly dawned on Carina that she hadn't done her homework and she had to be at school in two hours. She could do it herself, but she'd get it done faster if someone else helped her, so she asked a nearby stranger. Luckily, the stranger said yes.

Carina got her homework done within an hour and then raced off to school. No F for her!

While Kaelyn was practicing in her home dojo, Sienna decided to spend some time with Xander.

Unfortunately, the outing did not go well. Xander wanted to go to the pool, but Sienna's hydrophobia canceled that plan. They went to the gallery next door to the Le Petit Shark Pool Center, but they only stayed for ten minutes before Xander complained he was hungry. Then, after getting a bite to eat at the local diner, Xander left for work without so much as a goodbye.

Well, that sucked.

After school, Carina spent some time with Lynnette by the pool. The girls hadn't gotten together in a while.

They were supposed to go swimming, but they spent so much time catching up on things and chatting that it was dark by the time they were ready to swim. Before they left, Lynnette, knowing Carina's birthday was coming up, suggested they come to the pool again on that day.

"But your birthday is the same day," Carina said. "Aren't you having a party?"

"Exactly," Lynnette said.

Carina figured it out. She loved the idea and she then got one of her own. "What would you think of moving in together after our birthday?"

"As long as it's far from my messy family," Lynnette laughed. "What makes you ask?"

"Well, I don't want to live alone, but I don't want to move in with Malcolm until we get married and I don't really want to get married right after my birthday," Carina explained.

"Good point," Lynnette agreed. "I guess we have a plan then!"

The two friends hugged each other goodbye and went on their way.

At the Vasca household, Kaelyn had achieved the brown belt. Only three more to go before she was got the coveted black belt. Then, she'd be the greatest martial artist in Sunset Valley (as if there was another).

Prom was the next night. Malcolm showed up as he promised, although he was a little less formally dressed than Carina had expected. Not that she cared. She was focused on the great night this was going to be.

Lynnette also came to the prom, but neither she nor her date, Darlene Bunch, were dressed formally.

Sienna met up with Xander at the gym. He had asked her to build a metal sculpture with some scrap he found and she wanted to deliver it to him. She took the opportunity to get to know Xander some more.

It ended in romance.

While everyone was busy, Beau was feeling a little lonely. It was a special night for the little puppy too.

He was growing up!

Just like that, Beau was no longer a tiny pup. Now, he was big and beautiful!

Carina came back from prom, exhausted, but feeling great. She and Malcolm had danced the night away. Someone else won prom queen and king, but they got the vote of cutest couple. The night had been fantastic.

She proudly placed her prom photo on her dresser, next to her pet butterfly. This had been a night to remember.

If you're wondering why the fourth-to-last and the final shots are glowy, it was a full moon. No zombie attacks, though.

By the way, can anyone guess who's the stranger who helped Carina with her homework?

Dreams in the Valley is not over yet, but I have already gotten the ending planned out. I will not spoil it, but I will say this: it won't end when all the lifetime wishes are accomplished. The LTWs will still be achieved, but it won't be the ending point as I originally planned.

Thank you to all my readers for reading! I hope you're enjoying my story! :D

Chapter 14: The Perfect Aquarium

Carina only had one day before her birthday. She was getting frantic. She wanted so much to accomplish her lifetime wish before she aged up. She was so close - eleven out of the required thirteen - but it seemed like no matter how much she fished, she could not get the remaining two. She was almost ready to give up.

When she came home from school, she didn't even do her homework like she usually did. She tossed it on the floor and threw herself on the couch.

"Carina," Kaelyn said, having noticed her niece as she came out her little dojo. "Carina, what's wrong? It's not like you to look so upset."

"I can't find any more perfect fish," Carina told her aunt. "It's not a big deal, I guess, since I can do it any time, but not many people achieve their lifetime wishes before adulthood. I want to, but I can't find any, no matter how hard I try."

"And how is sitting here, moping and whining like a three-year-old going to help?" Kaelyn asked her, half-sarcastically. "Keep trying. Who knows? Maybe you'll find those perfect fish on your birthday. Just go out and keep trying, okay?"

Carina didn't think it was possible, but her aunt had a point. Giving up wasn't like Carina at all. Maybe she wasn't fishing in active spots. She made a short trip to the grocery store and then headed for Pinocle Pond.

Carina stood there and waited, but it felt like the ground was moving beneath her feet. She couldn't help it. Carina was ambitious and just had to get this done.

It didn't seem long before her curfew was only an hour away. Carina was about ready to put her fishing pole away until a tug nearly yanked it out her hands. She quickly pulled it in and it turned out to be a perfect kissing gourami!

That made twelve! The little fish made Carina go from sad to excited within seconds. And she got even happier when her next catch was a perfect black goldfish!

That was it! Thirteen perfect fish! Now, Carina had the perfect aquarium.

Since it was her curfew, Kaelyn was coming to be with Carina so she wouldn't be picked up by police. But Carina delightedly told her there was no need. She'd gotten the perfect fish and was ready to go home.

"I told you," Kaelyn said.

Back home, Carina excitedly told Lynnette on the phone about her accomplishment. Meanwhile, Kaelyn practiced breaking space rocks.

She was getting pretty close to achieving her own lifetime wish. With just two more points to go in each skill, Kaelyn was almost done. But the closer she got, the harder it seemed.

Meditation was very relaxing. Kaelyn always meditated for at least an hour after she finished doing chin-ups, board-breaking or kicking. It let her release all the tension and put her at ease.

Sienna had been busy. She'd made four new sculptures within one day. Her plan was to take them to the cosignment store to sell tomorrow.

The ice and metal sculptures were worth over 1,000 while the wood and topiary were worth over 500. Surely, that could bring in some profit. Sienna was a saleswoman, after all.

Sienna some good deals when she went to the cosignment store the next day, but she purchased nothing. She just wanted to sell her own items.

With the women of the house busy, Beau was just being Beau and doing what dogs do. Look cute!

Beau made a new friend one day. Her name was Marina.

She wasn't a stray dog, but neither Kaelyn, Sienna nor Carina knew who her owner was. She was a friendly dog and came by a few times to play with Beau.

When Carina arrived home from school on her birthday, she was still cheerful over her recent achievement. She had a little birthday party right at home. She was going to go to the pool, but she didn't think it was a good idea to go swimming on a full stomach.

Carina tried to think of something to wish for, but there was nothing else she wanted, so she just blew out her candles and sparkled.

Carina kept her teen hairstyle. Any other style simply wouldn't look like her.

But she did remove her eyeliner in favor of eyeshadow.

Graduation Day was the day after and it was another big day for Carina. She had been chosen as valedictorian and selected as "Most Likely to Have a Big Family".

Sienna and Kaelyn were so proud of Carina. Carina felt incredibly happy, knowing how her mother and aunt felt at that moment.

It wasn't until later when Carina realized something bittersweet. Graduation was wonderful, but it was also the start of something else. Something Carina knew was going to happen, but didn't think much of. And it wasn't just a start for her. All of a sudden, Carina was scared and sad again.

"Carina, are you okay?" Sienna asked. "You look ready to cry."

"Nothing, Mom," Carina quickly answered. "Nothing."

Yes, it was. It was something.

Completing the LTW before adulthood. Now THAT was an accomplishment! Congratulations!

I hope that everything is okay with Carina. I wonder what she's worried about...

Chapter 15: Carina's Worries

"I feel so unsure of my plans now," Carina sighed. "They seemed so great before, but I don't think I want to go through with them now. I don't want us to break up."

Carina was talking to Beau and telling him about her worries. Of course, Beau had no idea what she was going on about, but that was the point. She didn't want anyone to know how she felt.

"They'd go on without me anyway," Carina said. "It's just such a big change, Beau. It's making me nervous."

"Mom has been working feverishly with her sculpting station. She already has a bunch outside. Some of them are for the consignment shop, but some are being saved."

"Mom is getting really close to her lifetime wish. I think just a few more and she will have it done."

"Then, there's Aunt Kaelyn. Hers is the hardest, but she's so close too. She's in that little dojo of hers everyday. I liked it better when she was a photographer. She took some really good pictures."

"Don't misunderstand, Beau. This really is a good thing. It's time for all of us, but I can't shake the nervousness."

"I've been talking to Lynnette. She's excited as can be about it."

"Lynnette was basically her family's maid. She outgrew her "maid" look, but still had to clean up after them. She said she can't escape fast enough."

"I think I'm the only one with butterflies in my stomach, Beau. Mom, Aunt Kaelyn, Lynnette, Malcolm. They all can't wait and I'm a bundle of excitement and anxiety."

"What about you, Beau? Are you excited like everyone else or nervous like me?"

"I'll take that as the latter."

I think Carina is worried about what to do with her life now that she's already completed her LTW, or it might even be something more.
