Dreams In The Valley - Final Chapter: Carina's Dreams
« on: May 08, 2012, 11:53:08 PM »
Even though, I already have a legacy that just started, I've had this idea in my head now and, for some reason, I could not let it go. It's really just some skills I haven't worked on with any sim yet and want to try out, but I figure why not make something out of it. I will introduce the characters first, then the prologue, then the chapters. The story will stop after every member of the family (it's only three) has accomplished her lifetime wish.
--------------
Now, meet the Vasca family! This is Kaelyn Vasca.

She is a brave sim, who is friendly, disciplined, nurturing and has a photographer's eye. She dreams of being a professional photographer, but also wants to be a great martial artist. Her favorites are peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, classical music and the color orange. She is a Taurus and her lifetime wish is to have a world-class gallery.

This is Sienna Vasca, Kaelyn's younger sister.

She is an absent-minded, hydrophobic, snobbish saleswoman and savvy sculptor. She dreams of being an amazing sculptor someday. Her favorites are crepes, latin music and the color blue. She is a Capricorn and her lifetime wish is to be living in the lap of luxury.

And finally, this is Carina Vasca, Sienna's daughter and Kaelyn's niece.

She is an ambitious, outdoorsy angler and wants to be a great fisher. Her favorites are cookies, classical music and the color red. She is a Pisces.

The Vasca family lives in Sunset Valley. This is their house, which I renovated a little to make Carina's room bigger.

(Good thing this is my last picture because I reached the 10-picture limit. Thank you, Photovisi!)

It's 25 pictures maximum for a story, 10 is only for normal posts. :)

This sounds so awesome, and the sims are super pretty! That was the house I shot the very beginning of my current legacy in. ;D Looking forward to more!

Prologue

Kaelyn and Sienna Vasca had lived in Sunset Valley all their lives. They were a born to a wealthy family and for the first few years, their lives were like a child's paradise. They had more toys than all of their friends combined, they were taken out to eat at the fanciest restaurant in town at least once a week, attended private school and there was even a rumor around the neighborhood that they had ridiculously delicious desserts for every meal at home because their mother was a renowned chef. Though they were young, the girls loved walking down the streets and getting envious looks for their lavish clothing. There was only one rule the girls' parents set for them: don't tease. That meant they couldn't brag about all their possessions or how spoiled they were. But it didn't matter to them. Making people's heads turn was good enough.

It was around the time Kaelyn was nine and Sienna was seven that things began to go downhill. Rumors of their mother having an affair began to circulate around the neighborhood. At first, Kaelyn and Sienna didn't understand because they had no clue as to what an affair was, but after finding out, they tried to kill the rumors, insisting their parents wouldn't do that. Things got worse as they began to hear their parents arguing every night, followed by one of them storming out the house. Their parents were spending more time arguing with each other than playing with them. One night, Sienna finally cracked and loudly asked at dinner, "MOMMY, DADDY, WHY DON'T YOU LOVE EACH OTHER ANYMORE??!!"

The question took her parents by surprised and they finally gave their daughters the news they had kept secret for weeks: they were getting a divorce. They didn't explain why, but they told the girls that they had nothing to do with it. Over the next few weeks, Kaelyn and Sienna's lives practically came crashing down. First, the girls' mother moved out, cutting the family's income in half, so they and their father had to move into a smaller house and attend public school. Since their once-luxurious lifestyle was the only life they knew, they had a hard time adjusting to not going out to eat once a week or wearing "ordinary" clothes. At school, they would often be asked what happened and they were embarrassed to explain. Some kids did tease them and they unsuccessfully teased back.

Eventually, everything did settle down and, after a few years, the girls adjusted to their new life. Though both girls, now teens, still longed for the pampered life they once had, they learned to live with it. However, Sienna wasn't as accepting as Kaelyn. Sienna still held a snobby attitude and began to act out. She got in trouble a lot, sometimes with the law, and had multiple boyfriends. Their mother didn't mind it because she had stopped coming around, their father just considered it a passing phase and Kaelyn wasn't really sure what to do.

It wasn't until Kaelyn came home with a magazine she was given at school that Sienna started to calm down. The magazine featured all kinds of artists - painters, writers, inventors. But Sienna was most enthralled with the sculptors. She wanted to make creations like the ones in the magazine and then, she could be rich again. Kaelyn sighed and shook her head, but at least it would keep Sienna out of trouble. Kaelyn, meanwhile, was more interested in the photographers. Some of their photos showed pictures of martial artists. Kaelyn had always been impressed with martial arts, but never thought to try it. Maybe she could. So from then on, Kaelyn set her sights on being a photographer and martial artist while Sienna set hers on becoming a sculptor. They didn't have money to buy the things to start with, so for the time being, they researched and followed famous artists online.

When Kaelyn reached eighteen years old, she stayed at home to wait for Sienna. But when Sienna's eighteenth birthday came, she discovered something she couldn't believe: she was pregnant. That put her dream on hold for a while, but with Kaelyn's help, she was able to move out by the time her baby, who she named Carina, became a child. Carina told her mother one day that she wanted to be a fisher. Sienna said nothing more than, "That's wonderful, dear."

Wow. I actually made the prologue longer than I intended. But that tends to happen when I start writing.  ;)

Chapter 1: Time to Get Started

"Are we there yet?" Carina asked for what seemed like the thousandth time in an hour. She put her feet up on the passenger chair and stretched them out. "My legs are numb and sore."

"Sweetie, put your feet down," Kaelyn told her niece. "Just five more minutes and we'll be at our new house."

"That's what Mommy said when we passed the bistro," Carina complained. "Am I still going to be able to go fishing?"

Sienna laughed. "Yes, Carina, we'll let you go fishing, but you should play inside for a while first. All of our stuff is already there, after all."

Carina's eyes widened. "All of it? And it's unpacked?"

"Yep. All of stuff is already unpacked and arranged," Sienna answered. "It cost us a lot extra, but just like you're eager to start fishing, I'm eager to start sculpting. And Kaelyn is eager to start taking pictures."

"But Auntie Kaelyn," Carina said, confused, "you don't have a camera."

"That's why I'm going to Egypt shortly, Carina," Kaelyn reminded her. "They have a top quality camera that I can buy. I'm going to be in Egypt for three days, taking pictures and meeting people. I'll see if I can bring some souvenirs back."

"Make sure you don't disturb the mummies!" Carina warned her. "If you wake them, they will curse you and you'll turn into a mummy! Then, you'll be nothing but really old toilet paper and you'll never be able to see the sun again! It said so in my storybook and my storybook knows everything!"

"O-o-okay, honey!" Kaelyn said, she and Sienna struggling to hold in their laughter. They would've told her it was only a myth, but they didn't want to hurt her feelings. Besides, kids are supposed to have wild imaginations, right?

Finally, they arrived at their new house, where the movers had just finished up and were leaving. Carina was the first one to get out the car. Happy to finally be out of the car, Carina made a beeline for the door, ignoring her mother's call to wait until---SMACK! Carina ran right into the locked door and landed on the ground with a thud. But she got right back on her feet, still cheerful. Sienna and Kaelyn just shook their heads and walked up to unlock the door.

"Wow. They did a really good job," Kaelyn said, looking around the house. "They organized everything perfectly."

"I know," Sienna agreed. "Carina, what do you---Carina?"

Carina had raced off to her bedroom to play in her dress-up chest. She dug through the chest until she found her favorite costume: a purple astronaut.

While Carina pretended to talk to aliens, Kaelyn and Sienna looked more around the house before they eventually settled down to watch some TV. Kaelyn was leaving for her trip in just three hours. After she left, Sienna was going to start sculpting and Carina was going to down to a fishing hole.

"Hey, Sienna," Kaelyn said, "are you sure about letting Carina go off by herself?"

Sienna, almost falling asleep, looked drowsily at her sister. "She'll be fine, Kaelyn. Sunset Valley is a safe town," Sienna assured her. "Besides, I don't think Carina will accidentally run into a lake like she ran into the door."

The three hours seemed to pass quickly because before she knew it, it was time for Kaelyn for leave. Carina ran to give her aunt her a hug before she left, reminding her about the mummies. Kaelyn giggled and promised to be careful. She hugged Sienna and wished her good luck with her sculpting. Sienna said thanks and wish her good luck in return with her trip. With one more goodbye, Kaelyn went out to the cab that was waiting. Sienna and Carina waved goodbye as the taxi drove away.

"Still want to go fishing?" Sienna asked Carina.

"Yeah!" Carina answered. "I'm going to name the first fish I catch after Auntie!"

Sienna gave Carina a kiss and then, off the little girl raced on her bike to Crystal Springs to start fishing.

Carina carefully approached the lake, getting as close as she could without being precariously close enough to the edge to risk falling in. "I'm going to be a great fisher," she thought with determination. She cast her line and waited patiently for a bite.

Meanwhile, Sienna was starting on her very first sculpture. She stared at the huge clay block for a few seconds before she got out her hammer and chisel and began chipping away. She wasn't even sure what she wanted it to look like, but she figured something would come to mind eventually.

In just a few hours, Kaelyn had arrived at her destination. Egypt was hotter than she thought, but this was where she had to start.

Chapter 2: Kaelyn's Trip

After reading the bulletin board, the first Kaelyn headed to was the market. Egypt almost seemed like a desert island in her eyes, but it was a unique place. She spoke to the market clerk, asking what kind of camera was best for taking pictures. The one he recommended was quite expensive at $3,250, but he told her it was the best one available. Kaelyn became convinced and purchased it.

Almost immediately, she began snapping shots. She took photos of a passerby, the trees, market, the fountain and a snake charmer basket, which she tried her hand at. Unsurprisingly, she wasn't too good.

Kaelyn also bought a mummified teddy bear as a gift for Carina. Hopefully, Carina wouldn't take it to mean that Kaelyn bothered the mummies.

After snapping all she could, Kaelyn returned to her base camp. There were some butterflies fluttering about, so Kaelyn decided to catch one. It turned out to only be a moth, but Kaelyn still kept it as a small treasure.

Kaelyn re-read the bulletin board to see if there was an adventure she could do. She found one listed, but it only stated to go see a certain woman somewhere downtown. The address was posted, so Kaelyn made her way to the woman's house.

The woman's request was simply for some documents that were, for some reason beyond Kaelyn's comprehension, lost in the Tomb of Discovery. Kaelyn was rather afraid to go into a tomb, but it seemed like a simple task, so she accepted it.

The tomb was a little dark, but not that scary. In the first room down the staircase, Kaelyn even found treasure and some ancient coins next to the chest.

A bit of physical labor was needed to get through some doors...

But Kaelyn made her way to the final room, where she found the requested documents, as well as some gold bars and a canopic jar worth over $3,000. It was an amazing find for Kaelyn. She exited the tomb and returned the documents to the woman. It was almost nighttime, so Kaelyn decided to head back to base camp.

At her camp, Kaelyn met a nice young girl named Meret Hawas. She talked a lot about cameras and photos, seeming to take a pleasure in it herself. She also taught Kaelyn a song called "Oh, Where is my Mummy?" She told Kaelyn about Egypt and her family. Kaelyn was very interesting in what Meret had to say. After a while, Meret's family called her to go home, but Meret asked Kaelyn to please visit her family sometime.

Kaelyn watched Meret as she left, thinking about what a nice girl she was. She thought Meret would be a good playmate for Carina, who hadn't made any friends yet.

Kaelyn was having fun in Egypt, but missed her family, so she gave the house a call. Carina answered the phone. She asked Kaelyn how Egypt was. Kaelyn decided to tell Carina about her journey into the tomb.

"Did you run into any mummies?" Carina asked, as Kaelyn knew she would.

"No, sweetheart," Kaelyn replied. "I didn't see any mummies, but I did buy you a gift. You'll see it when I get back. How is your fishing going and Sienna's sculpting?"

"I caught three fish, Auntie," Carina exclaimed proudly. "Umm, Mommy's sculpting? She's...uhh...she's not doing so well. She hasn't even gotten half of that clay wall down."

"Well, tell her to keep at it," Kaelyn said. "She'll make something."

"Alright, I will!" Carina promised. "I have to go to bed. Good night! I love you, Auntie Kaelyn!"

"I love you too, Carina. Good night."

After the call ended, Kaelyn sat around the fire pit. She was alone. No one else was around. It was eerie in a way, but the night was quiet and calm. When she thought about it, Kaelyn realized she hadn't truly been alone since...actually, she'd never been completely alone. Maybe that's why it felt so strange.

Still, Kaelyn wished she had some company. She wished she'd brought her niece and sister along. But then again, that might not have been a good idea. Sienna might not have been interested in traveling. Carina would probably just run off to who-knows-where and Kaelyn would spend most of the trip chasing after her.

"But that's my family," Kaelyn thought.

The fire eventually faded and Kaelyn was ready to go to sleep for the night. She made herself as cozy as she could in her tent and drifted off to sleep. It'd been a long day.

The next day, Kaelyn awoke, not really sure of what to do. She could take more photos, but there was nothing really exciting to take pictures of. Then, she remembered Meret. Meret had asked her to visit sometime. It was kind of early, but not too early, so Kaelyn headed to Meret's house.

Meret opened the door, delighted to see Kaelyn again. She invited Kaelyn inside. Kaelyn was rather surprised with Meret's home. On the outside, it looked so different, but on the inside, it almost looked just like a house in Sunset Valley.

Meret's family was warm and welcoming towards Kaelyn. She spent the whole day there, getting to know the family. She told them stories of Sunset Valley and about her niece's belief in mummies. Meret's grandfather warned Kaelyn should listen to her niece. Mummies are real and they're no joke.

When it came time for Kaelyn to leave, Meret was sad to see her go. She asked if she would ever see her again. Kaelyn promised not only would she come back, but she'd also bring her niece so they could play together. Meret was happy to hear that and bid Kaelyn farewell with a hug.

Meret's family watched Kaelyn as she sped away on her scooter, waving goodbye for as long as they could see her.

By the time Kaelyn arrived back at her base camp, night had fallen. She returning home tomorrow. She was about to go inside her tent when she spotted someone just a short distance away. She couldn't tell if it was a man or a woman, as it was too dark to see. Kaelyn felt a bit scared, but she approached the person to see who it was.

The person only turned out to be another young girl named Satis Amin.

Satis apologized for frightening Kaelyn, explaining that she just wanted to wash her hands. Kaelyn apologized for possibly scaring her and went on to say that she was a traveler and this was her first time in Egypt. Satis found that interesting and told her of many world travelers she and her family knew.

Like with Meret, Kaelyn quickly became acquainted with Satis. The two even had a pillow fight by the tents. It was a great way to end Kaelyn's trip.

After Satis had to leave, Kaelyn retreated to her tent to go to sleep. She couldn't wait to get home to tell Carina and Sienna all about her trip.
The outside is quiet, but the inside is on full blast.

On my sims game one of the ambition things in the box of four,  and becoming a self employed photographer comes up... how do you become a photographer?
