Have you tried it in different game files?  I'm wondering if it would work in a brand new game.

It's not working in my legacy, dynasty or even my just for fun file. :(

I actually had to do a Google Search to find out what a MultiTab 6000 was. :P

But... despite you can laugh about that: I haven't found the word 'defragmentate' in this whole topic back so I can be the one who will boost with that word: 'Have any of you defragmented their computer before and after reinstalling your games?'
And you also could keep following this link if you like. They may found a solution sooner than we do.

Good luck!

I shall do a defrag! Thanks, Leto. Not today, I won't be on the simming laptop today, but possibly tomorrow. 8)

Fez, were all those files before you got the tablet. If that is the case, try a new game and see. Although I'd be surprised if that is the issue as last time I checked it worked in my Dynasty and that was pre-tablet.

The just-for-fun file was made just after I installed the set. :-\ I've only tried it with one sim there, but literally all my legacy sims have the tablet and it doesn't work for any of them so I doubt it's to do with what sim is using it.

EDIT: This defrag thing takes ages!! How long on average is it meant to take? And should I do all three bits? Currently, "Acer C:" says Pass: 9.0% consolidated. There are two other bits that say "PQSERVICE" and "SYSTEM RESERVED" - Do I defrag them as well once the C: thing is finished? It's taking so long. :(

EDIT, AGAIN: I went to look up how many passes the defrag takes and apparently it can be anything, but what I found on a Windows 7 forum was that there's barely any need to defrag a windows 7 pc because they defrag the hard drive in the background anyway!? Is this true? I'm getting really impatient with this, I wanted to play some today and I can't after half 7. :-\

3RD EDIT: Erm.. I think it's finished now? It kinda just stopped. Didn't tell me it finished or anything, no notification. It just stopped and went back to the screen that asks me to analyze the disk or defrag them. Erm.. Actually, I think I had clicked analyze instead of defrag.. *Sigh* Well, I'm not redoing it until next weekend, that took far too long. ::)

It can take a long time.  Back in the old days, we would start the defrag so that it would run overnight.

I'll probably be best starting in the morning and going off and doing something else and then checking up on it next time I do it. :)

After the defrag last night, all the sims were able to read a book on the tablet, as well as shop for books! The tabcast still doesn't work though, which is annoying because it was the only feature I really needed..

I deleted my DC Cache folder as well and my tabcasts stopped working. Which was why I bought the whole set so I was annoyed :)

But I really didn't want to uninstall and reinstall my game either, and I didn't want to lose my game since I had been working on it for over a month and I had my couple ready to have a baby finally. So I wondered if doing a factory reset, like in this thread http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/forum/index.php/topic,7507.0.html would work.

Following the directions I renamed my Sims 3 folder in my documents and started the game.

Then I created a person and quit, saving the file.

I went onto the Store and redownloaded just the Oh my goth set (or whatever it is called) and installed it into my new game.

I loaded my new Sim and had her buy the MultiTab and listen to a tabcast to see if it would work. (It was funny because I randomized her when I created her and she was a technophobe so her whole mood went to Yellow just because she was listening to the tabcast!) and I waited until the tabcast was over and she did learn the skill.

So I quit the game and opened the Downloads folder in my new folder to see what the package files name was.

I then copied everything BUT what was in my new Downloads folder from my old one and pasted it in the new Downloads folder. If you didn't care about your old saves at this point you would be done.

I reloaded my new game to make sure the tabcasts still worked, and they did. So far so good.

Then I renamed the New Sims 3 folder to Sims 3.2 and renamed my old Sims 3 folder back to Sims 3.

(I probably could have done this step before I started, but I didn't know if any of it would work) and loaded all the games I wanted to save and deleted all MultiTabs from all my sims inventory. Then I saved the game and moved on to the next until I was done.

I then renamed Sims 3.2 back to Sims 3 and the old Sims 3 back to Sims 3.1. I copied the save files I wanted and pasted them into the new Sims 3 Save folder.

I loaded one of the games, bought a new MultiTab and listened to a TabCast. It worked!!!

So if anyone broke the TabCast by deleting the entire contents of the DC Cache folder this did work for me. It took about 45 minutes to do, so it's not a quick fix, but a lot quicker than uninstalling the whole game and reinstalling it! Thanks to MoonsAreBlue for the idea of the Factory Reset.

I hope this is clear  :o

Reading this thread, it sounds like the MultiTab is something to totally avoid! At least until it's fixed.

I've just played for 3 hours and had no issues with it. I guess it varies from person to person.

I noticed a couple of things about the tablet. My sims would autonomously listen to tabcasts, which could be an issue for dynasties when you don't want your sims building certain skills. Also, your sim can read books on the tablet even if they aren't in their own personal inventory. Your sim can read any book that is in another household member's personal inventory, as long as that sim also has a tablet. So my sim was reading a book on her tablet, when the physical copy of the book was in her father's inventory. I'm not sure if your sim can read books that are in bookcases.

I agreed. The idea of the whole things sounds cool though.

If it works then it's the best thing in the game. No debate. The amount of stuff you can do instead of having the sim sit at a chess table is unbelievable! Alison Ravensgate is my first Sim to really use it and by using it, she gets a life. Like really - she has time for friends, a profession and a budding romance! As well as skilling! This may not sound like much but for me this is incredible - my Sims have social lives now!  :P

Hahaha, if your playstyle normally is skilling, skilling and skilling I understand this thing opens a whole new dimension for you. :)

I was having the same problem as Fez and Missa, but I was also having problems with the spell book showing up as a gray ball. Instead of just doing a factory reset,  I opted for a full clean install of everything, patterns and store content included. It took forever but my game is running much better and all my store content works, the only downside is I lost my SimPort rewards and progress. I also have fresh clean backups made after the clean install, so I know everything is working properly in them in case this comes up again.

I made a copy of the whole new Sims 3 folder with my downloads installed and saved it as a separate folder in case I have problems again, I don't have to do quite so much work :)

I love the MultiTab, but I can see how it would be a problem in a Dynasty unless you babysat each player and they never had time to do anything autonomously. To be able to learn logic while painting or learn gardening while writing a book is so cool!

I have been working out how to arrange all my downloads over the last few days - and premium content requires the ccmerged.package file in DCBackup. Each time you install premium (scripted) content information about it is stored in that file - so you can no longer delete everything in that folder. You can delete everything  except the ccmerged.package. So for things like the spellbook, the cauldron, the multitab 6000 etc - anything that has custom moodlets - you need to install via the launcher and keep that ccmerged.package file.

You can read more about it here and how to replace it if you lose it.

Woooo! Thank you, Chuckles! :D So, if I uninstall and reinstall all my content, then start the game, that DCBackup thing will be there and it'll work? Or do I have to go through the massive route that Missa went through? I'm rather worried about that route because the last time I did a factory reset (for this reason) my legacy begun lagging a bit which never ever happened before.
