Resolution?
« on: May 06, 2012, 11:14:29 AM »
Anyone know to fix resolution on a pc? It changed while I was playing sims! It keeps going to 640x480 when its meant to be 1024x768, I try entering control panel and display setting and changing it but it when I click apply it goes back to 640x480! I need help badly! I can't even use it at all now! (Well I can type this) but everything is zoomed in and all the colours are "smudged" and wrong. Help !!!!  :'(

Warr, I think this thread would be better placed in the Tech Support board so I'm going to move it there.  I'm afraid I don't have a suggestion for you, but someone will.

Reinstall/update your video graphic card software. That should do it!

could you just let us know what is your graphic card detail? Name? Brand? Model?

Like ATI HD 6850 or nVidia gtx 460? If you dont know, in case you're using window, press "Start button" + R(I mean the button on the keyboard that have the MS logo on it), type in "dxdiag" (without quotes), hit Enter and then select the Display tab, you'll see some details about your graphic card. Or you can use a program name CPU-Z (google it). Download and run, it's easy to use, too.

Have you restarted the computer since then? Sometimes my computer does this and restarting fixes it sometimes if you can't fix it in the properties settings. I actually had a problem like this last night and when I tried to change it, it said the resolution I had selected was out of range and then reverted to the low one. I ended up picking a higher (but not the highest) resolution, applied it and then restarted the computer. When I restarted, it was on the slightly etter resolution, but then it let me select the higher one I usually use.

I've restarted many times gone to save mode etc and used system restore. Ok heres my details I think...
System:
Operating System: Windows Vista Business (6.0, Build 6002)
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU              @2.40GHz (4CPU's)
Memory: 2046MB RAM
Page File: 1048MB Used, 3279MB avaliable
Direct X version: DirectX 11

Display tab looks weird but here it is:

Name:
Manufacturer: n/a
Chip Type: n/a
DAC Type: n/a
Approx.Total memory:
Current Display mode: 640x480 (4bit) (1Hz)
Monitor:

DirectX Features:
DirectDraw Acceleration: Enabled
Direct3D Acceleration: Not Available
AGP Texture Acceleration: Enabled

Drivers:

Main Driver:
Version: 0
WHQL Logo'd: n/a

DDI:

Notes:
-No problems found.

It seems weird... I think something might be broken? It started when i was playing sims, the screen like went into stripes. (Hard to explain) and the sound went all weird. Then I turned it off by the power button and this happened.  :o

It's my NVIDIA Geforce 8300 that is gone wrong, I saw on system information an error code 43 next to it. It says install drivers again on a FAQ but I'll wait untill my older brother (PC Wizard) comes round to sort it out.
