Deep frier or not I've noticed a Sim with static needs will continuously eat, they wont make normal food, but if food is available they'll make it and pack on the weight.  I had a party, with buffet table and all my Sim did was eat, by the time the party was over my Sim had packed on the pounds!

Though I'd love to try the deep frier/ ice cream maker in the park.  That sounds too funny.

Just a warning that some people that have got the fryer/ice cream maker and DO delete there sims DCbackup folder might have some issues with it. I deleted my DCbackup and now I can't even get my sims to touch the fryer! Other people have had this problem too on Thesims3.com forum.

Put the fryer in a room, then lock the door.  Don't unlock it unless you want your Sims to have the food.  And I, for one, would LOVE to see "chubbed-up" adults in line for the deep fryer, scrambling for goodies!  I bet a YouTube video like that would get so many views! 8)

I read that if you install your premium store content as a merged .package file (which can make your game run faster), then the invisible food thing can happen (and no ladle for the cauldron, and no pin for the voodoo doll etc). In order to be able to edit store packages you need to remove the store info from them - and that is what is messing it up. There are fixes available for it though. Also, you can download a ccmerged.package override file if you mess up the one you have.

I've also noticed all my sims (very annoyingly) stopping anything they are doing to go and grab an icecream once someone makes some.

The fryer works flawlessly for me as sims are only touching it when they're hungry. I read somewhere that what actually causes sims to use it 24/7 is if you use Make Needs Static or manually set their hunger to full with TestingCheatsEnabled.

The ice cream machine on the other hand... I think I would have been better off saving the 500 simpoints.
