Dying on Vacation
« on: May 01, 2012, 06:22:49 PM »
Can a sim die of old age whilst on vacation? I want to take my legacy co-founder on vacation, but he's 92 days old and I'm not going to take him if there is a chance he will die there.

I think a Sims age is frozen while on vacation. This is also why pregnant Sims do not show signs of pregnancy or give birth while on vacation either.

So quick answer he will not die.

In addition to what Rachel said, I don't think a Sim can die of anything while on vacation.  Not just old age.

I had a vampire die of thirst while in China and no other sims were with her - I had the option of returning to her roommate in Riverview, or going back to the main menu.

I have seen Sims die on vacation, I started a fire and it killed some of the Sims in the base camp.

Did your Sim die?  Or just the others at the camp?

Couldn't they die if they have the mummy's curse?

Sportsfan, I think since the age bar is frozen while on vacation they cannot die of that. And Old Age. Everything else they can die of on vacation.

The guide says
Quote
The Mummy's Curse The Mummy's Curse will affect a Sim for 14 days. Two full weeks with a -25 moodlet is a bummer, but even worse is that once the clock has wound down, your Sim will die. With two full weeks, you have multiple options to consider for removal
of the curse
Which seeing as a moodlet's time counts vacation days when it is wearing off so I would think that this means that sims can die of mummy's curse while on vacation.

As far as I know the age bar freezes indeed. Isn't it the same with pregnant sims that the pregnancy will not advance. So I don't think any sim will die of old age on vacation.

As others have said, time stops while on holiday so you can give your aged sim some extra days.

My sim lit the fire in the sitting room of the French base camp and died when it cought the house alight!

Another sim was hit by a meteor while sleeping in a tent in China and died.

To avoid the mummies curse carry a few mummy snacks obainable from the special merchant in Egypt.  Otherwise, if you have a modlet manager it is the easiest way to cure the curse.  Also, if you have completed the tournament in China - it's not that difficult to do - your sim will always (as far as I am aware) kill the mummy.

If a pregnant Sim is showing, she cannot travel at all.  But if she leaves on the day before she knows she's pregnant, it will not advance while on vacation.

I'm pretty sure my sim "died" of old age on vacation.  It's a very awkward situation now.  Since sims don't seem to actually be able to die on vacation, some interesting things happened:
1. ALL family relationships were reset to 0
2. The sim who died was removed from the family tree (and now has a crush on his daughter)
3. The sim who died appeared gray when looking at his family tree (of one...*sigh*) while on vacation, which is how I decided that he had died.

Now that the family is back home from vacation, the old man's color in his family tree is back.  He still has a crush on his daughter who he doesn't recognize as his daughter.  And we're re-building the relationships.  I'm expecting the old man to actually die any day now, but maybe he won't since he already died once.

I run a clean game, and WA is my only EP.  (I admit that I did use a cheat to improve the family relationships.)  So weird.

Welcome to our Forum, twinklette.

That sounds like a confusing situation.  Sims don't die of old age on vacation, for sure.  They don't age while traveling to the other countries, so aging to an old age death shouldn't be possible.  Did Grim come and take your Sim?

No, the Grim didn't come and take him.  He continued to be fully playable.  The only hint that he was dead was looking at his "family tree" in which he now appeared grayed out.  But as far as I can figure, he was "dead."  He died 8 days into the vacation.  8 days after getting home, the Grim came to get him.
