Athletic skill--how long does it extend life?
« on: April 28, 2012, 10:58:07 PM »
I have my game's settings to a "long" lifespan.  The total of the life stages all together is a lifespan of 385 days.  My eldest Sim happened to get "Marathon Runner" in which it states it 'guarantees them a longer healthier life'.  My question is how long is longer?  LOL My Sim is now 463 days old, almost 100 days past her 385 day lifespan.  Do you think this is a glitch or is it possible?  I do have MasterController and Overwatch mods, but it hasn't stated anything about her being stuck, so not sure.... :o

463?? Oh wow! I don't think the Marathon Runner actually has that much of an effect, and certainly not by that amount but wow, never heard of a sim living that long. :o

When I checked the Sim Wikki the total of number of days a Sim has for each lifespan is as follows:

Short:25 days plus.
Medium:50 days plus.
Normal:90 days plus.
Long:190 days plus.
Epic:960 days plus.

So it looks like your Sim on the long lifespan is well over his alloted years. Are you sure you are not playing on Epic or have changed the age settings yourself.

Actually you can now adjust each life stage (baby, toddler, child) individually.  So the default "long" lifespan is 192 days as you stated above, however, I used the sliders on each stage to put them to the max, so the "long" life span is a total of 384 days.  I doubled checked she is on the "long" (with my sliders maxed) lifespan option.

Yes I know about changing each individual life stage but in your first post you just said that you had it on the long setting not that you had changed each life stage. So now I have absolutly no idea how long your Sim should live for. Does it say under your age settings how long the elderly life stage is now for your game.

There was a time when Christopher Steel lived to be in his 120s on a 90 day lifespan so that was roughly 30% extra life.   Your Sim that you're talking about has lived 78 days longer than the end of his life bar.  Worst case scenario based on Christopher Steels previous example of 30% is you sim possibly living 128 days past the end of his life bar or around 513. He could live longer than that.  Every day a Sim lives past the end of the life bar there is background dice roll when he wakes up that says is today the day he's going to die.  Some times it's just that day.

I've had marathon runners only live one day past the end of their life bar.  Grim Reaper came on day 91.  I've had vegetarians die on day 91 of a normal lifespan, too and that's also said to extend life.   I'm sure they play a part but when the game wants them to die - they will die unless you have a deathflower or a really loving animal.

Sorry Rachel, I didn't make that clear.  I only mentioned that their total lifespan now was 384 days.   I did check on the settings and the elderly should be 72 days.  Given that they are 463 days old and the total lifespan is 384 they are 79 days past that.  Curious indeed!  So far there is plenty of room in the house, but my 3rd generation that I'm going to have get married soon (and have kids) it will get cramped.  Maybe I'll have her tinker with the TV.  ;)

Very interesting.  I will have to wait and see if that is the case with my Sim.  I did do some reading though and found that the death flower won't help an elderly Sim, not sure about a really loving animal part though; I don't have any pets on the lot at the moment anyway.  I will report back when they are close to the 513 marker.   ;D

I have had elderly sims be saved from death with the deathflower and it's been shown in several of the stories on this forum so I know that fact to be true.  As for the loving animal, if you have pets, animals can "harass death" to save a Sim.  This happened in my dynasty as well as Katluvr's Fae Dynasty.

Let us know how long they last if you don't give up and kill them off first.

so all this waiting and I forget to look at her age when she DOES die!   ::)  The last time I had looked it was around 480 and I'm almost positive she didn't hit the 500 marker.  Very interesting how much that Marathon Runner gives them for extra life.  :D

I'm sorry for your loss and glad you have a house space open again ;D  At least you know, she wasn't completely bugged out, too.  Just so you know, once they get the expire action in their queue you can't actually switch to the character to see any of their information.   What I do to keep track for my dynasty is every Sim Sunday I write on a post-it the age of my elders.  This way if they die during the week it's just a simple addition to get the correct age.   This also helps me to find out if there is any problems with aging within my file.   Wish you the best of luck!

This has been interesting. An elder of mine has athletic level 10 but not the marathon thingy and she's way past when she should've corked it already.  ;D I tried to kill her by locking her in a room without a door but I bottled out and just built her a granny flat away from the main household. All through her life I've been changing the age slider bars for each life stage, does her age reflect the present settings, or do the past settings have any effect?

Interesting.  What is her current age in days and what are the settings at presently?
