Paint the city opportunity
« on: April 25, 2012, 04:11:04 PM »
I have level 10 at painting and all the rewards in the skill journal. This opportunity came up and it says 0/15 paintings for my progress no matter how many I paint, or what size they are. Some are masterpieces and some are brilliant. I put them into the family inventory and have 5 or 6 in there now, but for the opportunity it still says 0/15.  :-\

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks  :)

I've been putting them in my personal inventory not family. That works for me.

You should put the paintings in the personal inventory of the sim that received the opportunity. What you are doing would work if it was a sculpting-related opportunity, but it has to be the /personal/ inventory for painting.

Additionally, you're quite lucky that you got this opportunity! I haven't seen it in years. I got it with my very first sim who was an avid painter. It made my sim instantly rich by giving her about 60K simoleons.

It is quite possible to get 300k+ with this opportunity. Unquestionably one of my favorites. ;) Keys — Have the skill challenges done, grab the painting lifetime happiness reward, only turn in large canvas masterpieces (portraits are worth even more than standard large sized paintings), and finally grab the Opportunistic reward.

Thanks for the tips. I'll make sure to remember to have all these checked the next time one of my sims gets this opportunity. If I remember correctly, and I hope that I do, my sim had the painting skill maxed and a few skill challenges completed by the time this opportunity was received. I didn't know about the lifetime rewards system back then (still exploring the game; circa September 2009). I vaguely remember turning in a mixture of small- and large-sized paintings, those that I thought were not as beautiful as her others. I was really startled when cash of 60K was received. I thought it would be 10K or something.

Thanks everyone!  :D

I have the opportunistic thingy and I'm getting more for paintings as well because of the skill challenge. I'll make sure to only put forward the large masterpieces and some portraits.

Wooohooo! Should get me that flashy sports car out of it.  8)

Thought I'd update and tell you all how it turned out. I submitted 14 large masterpieces and 1 portrait and I got $455,000   *jaw drop*

455,000!!!!!!

What do I do with all that money? I only wanted a sports car! Maybe I should buy a big community lot like the swimming pool? Do you get revenue from it each week like you get when you buy the small business e.g the grocery store?

My single mum sim is doing pretty well for herself. She's an astronaut, paints, and owns all the small businesses outright. Her teenage daughter is well on the way to also becoming an astronaut. Do the business ownerships get passed down to the next generation when the one who bought it dies? If so, the younger sim will probably never have to work! She's mean spirited and likes to troll internet forums. Tsk. I don't approve and stop her doing it when I catch her.  ;D

Anyway, yes, thanks everyone for all the tips and help!

Wow! That's a lot of money. I think that investing in some more businesses around the town is a good idea. Yes, you do earn revenue from owning a lot like a swimming pool. I'm not sure about the ownership being passed down because I haven't owned businesses in a while, but I suppose they do get inherited. If you have other questions regarding the real estate ownership system in Sims 3, I suggest you first have a look at Carl's guide for this game feature and also the Sims Wiki article about it.
