Question about giving people presents. (sims 3 pets xbox)

My cat and dog always want to give other sims presents..how do i do that?

I am playing Sims 3 Pets too.  How does that come up?  Are they best friends forever?  I am curious because my dog has the friendly trait or extra rewards and he has a bunch of friends.

I've only done this with a cat. After you catch something, playing as your pet, you go into your inventory and pick the insect or whatever you caught and the option of "present to sim" (or something like that) should come up.
