sim house image is someone else's house
« on: April 21, 2012, 10:49:14 AM »
Hi everyone.  I have started a new Sunset Valley neighbourhood and I have put several of my existing sims into it with their houses from other neighbourhoods.  A collection, if you will.  All went in fine, save one.  When I open the game, her house shows up as the house on the lot that I had moved to another lot (which shows up fine) so as to accomodate this particular sim.  I moved her in without any problems and she was the first one to be placed in the neighbourhood.  I thought all was good until I went to the map.  Her house was the image of the previous house.  I played a couple other houses and went back to hers.  Once I played back on her lot, her house showed her image on the map.  It is sporadic though.  Sometimes it's her house and then the prev house.  That house will show up twice.  I've tried taking her house out, bulldozing the house and lot completely and putting her in again.  No good.  Can anyone help with this image problem.

I was having this same problem a long while ago. There is a rather easy fix for it. You should remove the static cache for the world you are having issues with, which in this case is Sunset Valley. The static cache is stored in [Game installation location]\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Caches\Sunset Valley.objectCache (backup the file elsewhere before deleting). Please have a look at this post by Simsample at the official thesims3.com forums for more information. Report back if the problem persists even after doing that.

thanks for the responses.  I added a plant to the house in question and it is now showing up as it should.  Thanks for that suggestion.  I restarted the game twice to be sure.  If I see it change back, I'll be back here, because...I looked for the cache folder in Sims 3, but do not have one.  That concerns me.  I also did a search for the file sunsetvalley.objectCache.  Nothing found.  After I added the plant, I checked again for the folder hoping it had been generated, but doesn't seem to have done so.  This also concerns me.  Any advice.  I use game content only and I have a good gaming computer.  64 bit, 8 mg ram.  I delete the 4 cache files which are not in a folder every time I play the game - CASPartCache, compositorCache, scriptCache, simCompositorCache .  I also keep tabs on the ".bad" files in the saves folder.  I don't go into any other folders.  Lions, tigers & bears to me, so I'm quite sure I haven't deleted it by accident.

From what I understand, you are looking in the (My) Documents folder - this is where the four cache files you have named are stored, but this is not where the Caches folder alongside the Sunset Valley.objectCache is stored. You should look in [the hard drive partition where you've installed the game - C:, D:, etc.]/Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3. Did you look here and did not see any Caches folder?

thanks so much, I found it.  Didn't know to look there.  My search only encompassed the "Documents" (windows home premium - the folder is only "Documents" - no "My" to it.  I found it in "Local Disk C / program files (x86)" whatever that is.  There is also a "program files" folder, but EA isn't there - go figure, I checked that first.  Computers are a forest.  Can't see the tree for the forest.  If my problem persists, I'll try that route.  My house is still showing.  Yeahhh... ;D

I am glad that you managed to fix your problem and that my findings were of any help. I might as well go ahead and briefly explain the Program Files (x86) vs. Program Files thing. Since your OS (operating system) is 64-bit, and some programmes have only 32-bit versions, it is required to have both versions of these programmes. The 32-bit versions are stored in Program Files (without x86) and the regular 64-bit versions are in Program Files (x86). Please read this page for further information on this subject.

Also, if you ever have this problem with other EA-made default neighbourhoods, you should delete the following files and let the game recreate them.

For Twinbrook, - [Game installation location]\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 Ambitions\Caches\Twinbrook.objectCache
For Bridgeport, - [GIL]\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 Late Night\Caches\Bridgeport.objectCache
For Appaloosa Plains, - [GIL]\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 Pets\Caches\AppaloosaPlains.objectCache
For Starlight Shores, -  [GIL]\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 Showtime\Caches\Starlight Shores.objectCache

This problem should not occur with custom worlds (including EA-made Riverview, Barnacle Bay, Hidden Springs and Lunar Lakes), however even if it does, you should delete the two cache files for that world found in the (My) Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/WorldCaches folder.

Thanks for the explanation.  I appreciate it.  I wasn't aware of 3 worlds you mention.  Riverview, Hidden Springs and Lunar Lakes.  I will have to look into getting them.  I have all the EP's, Barnacle bay and Union Cove.  Good to have choices.

You are welcome. Riverview comes free with the registration of the base game on the official site. If you have already registered your games with the corresponding codes, you will find this world in your Purchase History or can download it straight from the store. Hidden Springs currently costs 2000 simpoints (down from 2450), while Lunar Lakes is priced at 2450. You can find all EA-made custom worlds at the Worlds page.

thanks again.  You're the best.  I checked my account and I have 0 points.  I may bite the bullet and pay the $40 bucks for these two worlds.
