Looking for a way to rotate a non-empty lot
« on: April 17, 2012, 09:26:41 PM »
For some reason I have this memory that somewhere on this forum there was a mention of being able to rotate a lot that has been built upon. Problem is, I can't find it.

I can grab and rotate empty lots under the World Editor tool but I can't do the same for lots that have anything built on them. Is there a way I can find out which direction the front of the lot is (the grid you see when placing a lot in World Editor)? And if so, is there a way/cheat to help me rotate it?

You can always save the lot full of whatever, place a new lot that is the same size, and place the lot full of whatever on and rotate whichever way you want. :)

Also, feel free to request a home by PMing me! Always happy to help.

Hey guys I'm taking an extended hiatus... again. I'm out of ideas to build houses and I don't have as much fun designing homes like I used to; it feels more like a chore. So that's where I'll be, I will probably be back sometime. :P

Before you save it, you can shift+click the ground on the edge that you want to be the front and 'set as lot front'. That's about as much as I know without running the game and tring it for myself. I thought you could grab lots in edit town mode by using the hand and then rotate them that way. But as I haven't tried it, I'm probably wrong.

That would work, Zapkid, but then, even though my stuff is facing towards the front (ie. the road), the lot footprint isn't lined up with the stuff. Also, it's a contest build so I'm hesitant to save and replace in case the lot value changes. I hadn't thought of this method though, so thanks for the reminder.

This is what I thought I had read on the forum somewhere, but I couldn't remember what the process was. I'm assuming you need testing cheats on for this. I'll try it tomorrow if the baby will give me enough time. I have saved it already so hopefully that doesn't make a difference. Thanks.

I have to do this each time I start a new town because I put the new buildings from ambitions in backwards the first time.

When you go into edit town, the move lot button can be used to rotate lots, even if you don't want to move it otherwise.  Just click the house/lot with the move tool, and click again to put it down where it was.  The camera will zoom in and you have the option to rotate the whole lot before you accept the new position.

Mandamouse, thank you! I didn't know that. I always bulldoze those lots in Sunset valley and place it again. You save me a lot of trouble! Thanks again. ;D

No problem!  Edit town is a crazy mess of confusion.  I'm glad I could help!

I just want to note:

Before you save it, you can shift+click the ground on the edge that you want to be the front and 'set as lot front'. That's about as much as I know without running the game and tring it for myself. I thought you could grab lots in edit town mode by using the hand and then rotate them that way. But as I haven't tried it, I'm probably wrong.

This method does require TCE-true and is a Ctrl-Shift-Click.

This works great to rotate the lot! Thanks for the tip.

So combining these too, I can now have my lot facing the proper way and my Sims enter it from the right side. WOOT!

Thanks guys. :D
