Painting seems to me to be one of the slowest skills to maximize.  Not hard, but it just takes so much time.

I don't like Maxing inventing because you have to watch your Sim to make sure they don't catch on fire or put them out when they do.
I like skills that I can set my Sim doing while I wander off and do somethng else.

That's why I keep a shower near them. If my sim catches fire, I put her in the show, back to inventing and I get on with whatever I was doing.
The outside is quiet, but the inside is on full blast.

I don't get it.For me, Charisma is a breeze, Inventing is an easy chore, photography is fun, Athletics is a mere annoyance, Mixology is child's play. The skill I'm frustrated with is Collecting w/o traveling. I just don't get it.

Certainly, I've never maxed collecting. It is so difficult to find things, and enough of them, that it is just plain ridiculous! It is the one single skill that kills me off mentally (and kills my indescribable patience too) every single time... I've been at it for over 2 years now. It's discouraging after so many attempts...

Collecting is rather easy if you a) have a collection helper or b) know where all the spawners are - CAW is a big help with this :D. Plus, the consignment store makes running around for metals and gems unnecessary.

To quickly get friends for the Cherisma skill, just play a guitar in a frequently used public place.  Then all you need to do is either converse reguarly (Charisma or good sense of humour help here) or read the chrisma books in library with the Chinese incense burner (bookworm helps) to super max you definately need the humour thing.

I hate inventing, catching fire happens far too often, so much so that I put my bench right next to a bathroom.

Athletics, just go to stadium to get level one then have the sim jog everywhere, especially when collecting and when returning home from work.   The gym or acadamy are the best places to do strenght workouts.  I don't know if this is my imagination, but, I think that the Chinese insence burner helps here too.  I always use "don't break sweat".

Bookworm is useful to quickly max logic, reading gets there much quicker if you read the books in the library, again, with the incense if you hsve it available.

In sculpting I get annoyed by the disintegrating stone, I've had three stones disintegrate on me in succession more than once.  I usually pay for a mid-life crisis to get "savay sculpter" before doing this skill.  And I've had two deaths while doing metal sculpters.  One moment happily chisling away the next the grim reaper has arrived, no warning fire or even sparks.

Mining is a good, but dirty and rather tedious way, to get the meteors for the collecting challenge.  I've never found them all on the map.

Overall, I would say inventing is the skill I find most troublesome.

But, for supermax, definately guitar.  I've never completed that one.  Has anyone?  Those ten ops seem totally unralistic to me in a normal lifespan.

I have done it several times, typically I knock out the Superstar Challenge somewhere between weeks 6 and 9—just depends on how often the opportunities fire. I think what throws a lot of players off is the fact that Opportunities like Sorting the Section does indeed count towards the skill challenge despite the fact there is no guitar playing involved. If you have other points in other skills besides guitar, then I hope you're a patient player. Lol. The only timely method to Supermax Guitar is to make sure it's the only skill you have points in—otherwise you'll be getting opportunities you do not want in other skills.

I agreed with Metro here, but if you have Late Night installed than the last instrument you want to supermax is the hardest. Though I've succeeded in it with Max Skills though.
Nevertheless: that last instrument is alike the complete Photography skill the most hardest skill to supermax. And in Photography, I have only succeeded in supermaxing it without all the photo collections complete.

I find charisma to be easy, except for the jokes part. My sim has 102 aquaintnaces and 92 friends. She's maxed everything, but the jokes part, because she's too busy to joke around (lol).
If your sim is good at guitar, or singing, they get the first part of charisma easily. Then they throw a party and their aquaintances become friends. Then they throw more parties and the friends become best friends. Simple!

@MoMall... I found if you chat up small children in the park or library you can rattle off a dozen or more jokes in rapid fire fashion and they don't get bored but laugh hysterically. I have gone through 12 or more jokes in about an hour... quick and simple when you have maxed at 10 and finished off all of the other challenges and need about 20 or 30 jokes to complete the joke challenge.

Inventing for me too.

Chrisma, I don't see why some find it such a problem.  There are several ways to make friends without any effort, ghost hunter or playing guitar/ performing for tips being the obvious ones.  You can have so many best friends in so short a time it is ridiculous.  Then just go to the library and read the books.  Even easier, buy a tabcast.  Job done.  If you want to supermax Chrisma, however, the jokes challenge can be a pain unless you have the "good sense of humour" trait.

I have mixed feelings about whether the charisma skill is hard to max... but I absolutely despise the handiness skill, especially when trying to supermax.
My sims get fried and I really hate to see them die by electrocution.  It seems every household I play ends up with blue-lightning ghosts and a plethora of hilarious pictures. Which brings me to inventing.  I think its really funny when my sims have to rush to the shower and freak out while washing quickly, but then again it kinda annoys me.
Dunno guys.

I have only had WA installed for  about three weeks now and I find the time sink for Martial Arts very tedious. I am enjoying it, but the 150 hours of meditation, 75 matches, fifth rank tournament takes a lot of time and patience. The board breaking goes quickly enough, but the others seem to drag along. Besides, unless you have a partner back at "home" to spar with, you are limited to sparing in China.

Anyone have any speed tips for this one?

The moodlet manager makes martial arts a ton easier to supermax, since a sim can get rid of their fatigue that way. Otherwise, I have my sim meditate for eight hours when they're fatigued. It adds up quicker than you think.

The spars for the Tournament also count for the Sim Fu King challenge, which made supermaxing martial arts pretty easy in my immortal dynasty.

I already supermaxed Athletics so I don't have fatigue when working through the sparing matches... but good to know for the next time.

I wasn't sure if the tournament matches would count. I haven't tried those as yet. Next visit to China I will be sure to "double-up" the matches and tournaments... thanks for the tip.
