I've never tried this, but somewhere there's a thread about it.  I think what people have done is get a doctor to assess the gender and then have the expectant mother eat the fruit that gives the opposite gender.  So, for example, if the doctor said the child was going to be a boy, you would have the mother start eating watermelon.

This would probably still work, but mixed genders come on their own now.

@Nyks:

Welcome to our Forum.  Twins can come even when the player does nothing to increase the chances.  It happened to me in my Immortal Dynasty and really surprised me.  The odds of having two sets of twins without trying are small, but not impossible.  Your Sims are just fertile.  :)

I want to make sure I have this right.

Have my mom sim get the fertility treatment, eat 10 watermelons, have WhooHow with dad and then watch Kids TV and or their radio channel and i will most likely have mixed gender twins.

Or does the TV and radio not matter?  It doesn't add any help to insuring mixed gender twins.

Does the fertility treatment with only mom insure that she will have twins or do I also need dad to do same?  Do NOT want triplets.

Eating watermelon prior to woohoo shouldn't have any effect - it's eating the fruit after that will determine the gender. Fertility treatment, TV, and radio will only increase the chance of multiple births, not the gender.

If you're dead set on mixed gender, you'll want to eat either all apples or all watermelon, then have a doctor determine the gender, and once that's done, eat all of the other fruit.

Wow, I didn't know there was a trick for that! I'm going to try it out soon. I really want mixed gender twins and triplets, but I usually get girl/girl/girl combinations.

Are there any other tricks?

Eating no fruit gives you the chance of having mixed-gender twins/triplets, but it's not as likely.

None that I am aware of. I do not like either infants or toddlers, so I avoid multiple births like the plague. Trust me, if the Immortal Dynasty allowed us to adopt children to be heirs, I would have done just that!

Edit: Far as I know, Pam is the Queen of Nooboos, so she might have some suggestions for mixed gender children.

I once was trying for twins on a game with my own little rules I set for myself... I basically move out the youngest child once its grown up in order to stay with the family as long as possible. I had already had 1 girl and I don't think I cared about the gender at all, I just wanted twins because I wanted three kids but there wasn't much time left before they became adults or something like that. I believe all I did was watch kids tv and danced to kids music once at a party and got two boys and a girl! Fancy that... I actually got really worried because the 2 boys came first and I didn't want the older daughter to be stuck with like 3 younger brothers or something, but I got lucky.

THE POINT IS  (of this long comment) that I'm almost positive its just random deciding what gender. I'm not sure about the Fertility LTR because I used it once and got two girls. I was trying for one girl but they couldn't get pregnant and I was getting impatient :) So yeah, I think if you leave it alone and just try for twins or triplets in general it will just carry out on its own... leaving out the eating fruit thing.

I stopped eating fruit awhile ago. I like surprises! No more books, TV, etc. Sometimes I get twins, sometimes just one. Fine with me.

Thank you, Shirin.  :)

The main thing is that EA changed the code in the game not long ago and made it to where mixed gender twins and triplets are quite common.  You don't have to do anything special to get both genders.  The trick with the doctor will still work, but it was developed back when multiple births were always the same gender and we were forcing the mixed gender to happen.  No need for that now.  As for getting multiples, it can happen even if you don't do anything at all, but it's not common.  To help the chances for twins or triplets, use the fertility treatment Lifetime Happiness Reward, watch kid's television or listen to kid's radio.  Personally, I've never had the radio do anything, but it's been confirmed by sources I trust.  The more of those things you do, the more chance you'll have of getting more than one baby.  Also, the more of them you do, the more chance you have of getting triplets.  For example, if both parents have the fertility treatment and the mother spends a couple of days in front of the television watching the kid's channel, she will likely have triplets.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. :)
I've been thinking, I never really made my sim eat fruits to change their baby's gender, but I always make my sims eat pancakes, so maybe they were eating watermelon or apple pancakes without me noticing... I'm gonna be extra careful now. Who knows, maybe I can get mixed genders.
Again, thanks. :)

EA made changes early after the release of Sims 3 so that only the raw fruit will influence the gender.  So, eating the fruit in cooked meals won't do anything.

Oh thank goodness, I was avoiding apple pancakes for pregnant mothers because I was afraid it would effect the gender! :)
