Janna, I don't think you need to have her eat the watermelons before woo hoo...just after she does her spin that tells she is pregnant. Then comes the fruit. If you give fertility treatment to both mom and dad you are almost certainly going to have triplets.

Especially if you listen to kids music and read the prgnancy books!

Talk about mayhem !  I gave mom the fertility treatment,  had her eat four watermelons before they tried, later on she ate three more and then later three more and then a couple more later.
No music, so I was going rats, but later that night she was worshiping the throne again, so I figured at least we had a girl on the way.  Lisened to kids music but no tv.  I had her working on a book that she had just started. 


Here she is, in front of the computer in labor and hubby comes home, he is tired and stressed but also happy, he received a raise, promotion and bonus.  Sees she is in labor freaks out then starts to have a fit as he wants to play on the computer.  The youngest toddler is crying with the hygine bar red, the oldest is crying because she is tired and hungry, the maid is yelling over the potty chairs and then there comes the twins, both girls    I had wanted one of each.

That night was fun, the twins seemed to be on different schedules for hunger, dirty diapers and social needs, the oldest toddler is hungry and wants to be cleaned, but isn't tired; the youngest toddler is tired and wants to be cleaned but isn't hungry.   Mom and dad were both exhausted and he had to go to work with only half full of energy.

Good thing he is off the next day.

I noticed someone said once she spins then you eat fruit, that's not entirely true. If you want to chose specific genders you have to eat the fruit before she spins pregnant. Once she has the pregnant mood let the genders are set and can't be changed. That period after woohoo and before she spins is crucial. Once my sims start vomiting I split the types of fruit so she eats both, and kids music always plays. I have the fertility treatment and I read books. But I don't find the books all that important anyway. Just to fulfill the small wish.

I never have my Sims eat the fruit before the Spin it is always,for me,after they have discovered they are expecting and done the spin into maternity clothes and I have always gotten the gender I wanted. As far as I am aware the gender is not set at all unless a Sim eats a specific fruit or asks a doctor to predict gender. I once had a game where my Sim gave birth to a boy my game crashed to desktop just after the baby was born and I had to back to a previous save,I had saved at the point where she had just started to get the nausea moodlet. When I replayed the pregnancy she had a girl which is what leads me to believe the gender is not locked in at that point.

Some people start eating a certain fruit after woohoo others like me eat it after they have done the spin into maternity clothes.

From my understanding in Sims 1 and Sims 2, the gender was always set at the spin.  However, my experience has been like Rachel's in that the gender of the same pregnancy can be completely random if played multiple times without any influence.  I've even had a save that produced twins one time and a single another without influence of music/TV.  I believe Sims 3 let's you make a choice of gender if you want to and that's why there is an option to eat fruit if you want to.   Also, I always eat at least 10 after the spin and never have I not gotten the gender I wanted.

I have a Sim that just had twin girls. No fertility treatment at all. She only watched Kid's TV once, only read one pregnancy book, and actually had minimal contact with the father for the three days of pregnancy. But she did eat about 10 watermelons because I wanted her to have a girl. Maybe the amount of fruit could be a factor in multiple births, too? Or maybe it is completely random, because I couldn't figure out why she ended up with twins.

I've found that occasionally it can only take once for kids tv to produce twins. If I don't want multiples, I try to keep momma sim away from the tv. But she can sometimes be sneaky

I may be wrong, but if the mum is a young adult the chance of twins is bigger. After I got triplets with a young adult, without kids televion or kids music, my sims must wait until their adult birthday for a nooboo. I prefer to have single births lol. I haven't get any twins again.

I did the whole shebang, and boy was I sorry.  I had her read the books, watch tv, listen to the music and take the fertility treatment.  Ate 5 watermelon, five appples then later two of watermelons before the spin;  three watermelon and two of apples after the spin.  She went into labor before she ate the rest, she seemed to always be full and to get her to eat more than two at a time gave her the stuffed moodlet. 
Anyhow, when she went into labor, a girl, then girl number two, was disapointed, but okay.  Then number three girl showed up!  Triplets, no way was I going to do that.  For some weird reason neither her or hubby would feed or hold two of the girls; the just wanted to take care of one.  So, I went to an earlier save which was the day she had become pregnant and had no tv or music but read books and was able to eat more even of the fruit, she still had girls, oh well, at least it was twins, not triplets. 

In another family, I had the fertility treatment, had her read the books, watch for about an hour sim time the kids channel and was better able to eat the fruit and one each fruit at a time, instead of five of one type, then five of another.  Had twins, boy and girl. 

I have wondered if it was the overload of the kids channel, music, and books plus the amount and order of the fruit eaten in the way I had her do so that caused the triplets.   

Twins is enough to handle, triplets, no way!

As far as I know, the only time switching the fruit works is when you also consult a doctor to lock in the gender of the first child.   Fertility treatment now gives mixed gender twins and triplets without eating any fruit and by eating so much watermelon, I think you just insured that they were all girls instead of mixed gender.

I agree with Ricalynn.  I'm not seeing the point of eating both fruit when eating none at all is probably the most likely to produce mixed gender twins/triplets.

The fruit didn't have anything to do with it, but the fertility plus the television and radio would definitely increase the chance of triplets.

I've been playing The Sims since the first one came out for the mac and I've never once done the kid deal, all sim's have been childfree - but since getting Sims 3 I've chosen to try a legacy challenge so did the child deal and well here's what is happening thus far...

First time round
Mother/Father try for baby - all I do is have them read the two books (but this is long after she learned she's pregs) no TV, no Music, no Fruit and no Fertility Treatment and she ends up with a male child (didn't matter to me what she had, I don't really care)

Second time around
I just had them WooHoo a few times within a single session (ok, I set them to do it once, walked away to do something and came back to find them doing it again on their own accord) and instead of a single birth I end up with mix gender twins and she still has no Fertility treatment, no fruit, no music and no tv. As in nothing to influence her having twins or anything.

Third time around
This time I tell them to do it aim for a child but still no fruit, music, tv or fertility treatment and yet again end up with mix gender twins.

So in total thus far they have one YA Son, Twin Mix Gender Children and Twin Mix Gender Tots oh an in the process they adopted a dog (dog was adopted shortly after their first son was born). Its been interesting to play it with sooooo many things going on and both parents are stay at home types (father is a professional writer, mother well she was going to be a gardner but that went out the window with the first set of twins shes just a home maker now with dad bring in the bacon as well now as the YA son who has turned into a carbon image of the father (also a writing professional).

To me if this is anything like RL no wonder I prefer being childfree and have been playing like that all these years - doing this generational challenge is proving to be its own nightmare on so many levels its a wonder the kids are still living or that the son grew up as well as he did (got to choose all of his traits for some reason) or the dog hasn't been taken away from being neglected so much.

I want to make sure I have this right.

Have my mom sim get the fertility treatment, eat 10 watermelons, have WhooHow with dad and then watch Kids TV and or their radio channel and i will most likely have mixed gender twins.

Or does the TV and radio not matter?  It doesn't add any help to insuring mixed gender twins.

Does the fertility treatment with only mom insure that she will have twins or do I also need dad to do same?  Do NOT want triplets.

10 watermelons will give you all girls, not mixed gender. Just like eating 10 apples will give you all boys. For mixed gender, I just don't eat apple or watermelons.

I'm not actually sure if there's a way to increase the chances of mixed gender.
However, to increase the chance of triplets, fertility treatment (both parents), watching Kids TV channel and listening to Kids music always results in triplets for me.

I've never tried this, but somewhere there's a thread about it.  I think what people have done is get a doctor to assess the gender and then have the expectant mother eat the fruit that gives the opposite gender.  So, for example, if the doctor said the child was going to be a boy, you would have the mother start eating watermelon.
