Recover/Repair Saved Game File
« on: March 19, 2012, 07:09:31 PM »
My computer shut off after I'd saved my game, but before I'd quit. When I turned my computer back on and tried to play, that game file had a silhouette of each member of my family instead of a "photo." When I click the check button to open the game, it'll look like it loaded quickly, but then I get this message: "A serious error has occurred while loading 'Young.sims3.' It is strongly recommended you restart the application."
In my save files [my documents->electronic arts->sims 3->saves->] I had three folders related to that game file. One had nothing tacked on to the end, one was a .backup folder, and the third was a .bad folder [???].
Can I recover this? I've seen help pages that describe repairing the meta files, but only for World Adventures, which I don't have.

Welcome to our Forum, misslucyford.

Try deleting the ".bad" folder and restart the game.  If the problem persists, go back and delete the regular folder, then change the name of the ".backup" folder to match the regular folder (remove the ".backup" from the name).  By doing this, you've restored the backup save to the game.  Now restart and try again.  If this doesn't work, then that file is probably corrupt beyond saving.

Let us know how it turns out.
