No Metoerite Falling Mods
« on: April 05, 2012, 09:36:17 AM »
Hi all! My sister was playing a few nights ago and she experienced our first meteor hit. It killed one of her sims and now she is on a ban from playing until I find a mod that gets rid of them. Does anyone know of a mod that eliminates the chances for meteor showers?

There was a mod at ModTheSims that did this but it hasn't been updated since. I don't advise you to use it if you're on a post-Generations patch as the coding in patch 1.22 divided the factors for human and pet species, thus making the mod useless until it is updated. Unfortunately, the creator doesn't have any intention to do so from what I've seen, and I am yet to find another mod that does this and is updated. I also stumbled upon this thread at iPlaySims where one of the members has made a similar mod, but I don't think it's updated either.

bluegenjutsu at Naughty Sims Asylum has a No Meteors Falling Mod: http://simsasylum.com/tfm/index.php?/topic/217-no-meteors-falling-requires-ambitions-ep/

It is compatible with 1.3x patch levels.
You must register to see the thread and download the mod.

Thank you both for your replies. My sister and I are really grateful. Actually, when I showed her the mod at the Naughty Sims Asylum, she said, "Oh freakin', thank god!!" She is very happy and can play Sims without worry.

Thanks again you guys!

I have never had a meteor strike in my game.  I am seriously dipping out when other people need mods to stop something I have never seen.   ;D

*I think the reason is that I only ever play in custom worlds.

Nah, you have Ambitions, right? You can get meteors in custom worlds, it's just that the chance to get a meteor is really, really low. When standing outside, your sim has a 0.0001 chance to trigger a meteor, and when looking through a telescope, it's a 0.001 chance. If you get really (un)lucky, you get a few meteors back to back, because that's just how random stuff works. I once got two meteors back to back, but I haven't had a meteor since.

In the past, it was actually broken script mods that caused a number of people to have these meteor storms where their sims just got hit by meteor after meteor after meteor.

Meteors have been pretty rare for me, too.  I've had about five since they were introduced in the game a couple of years ago, and all in different games.  (Three in different Sunset Valley games, one in Twinbrook, and one in Bridgeport.)  Two of those times they hit rabbit holes, too, and my sims were at work.  The others my sims were just out in the yard.  One was using the water slide, one was walking out to the car to go to work, and one was my unicorn just grazing in the backyard.  I've never had the telescope trigger a meteor, oddly enough.

The mods are nice, though, if you want to eliminate the chance entirely.  At one point I thought that the fireproof homestead reward would (since meteors cause fires) but it turns out that it just lets the meteors fall without causing fires.  Your stuff can still get crushed and charred, there is just no fire to put out.

I have had several deaths due to meteors. Until recently, I didn't play dynasties and it didn't bother me if my sim was killed.        :-[
If you are controlling the sim that is targeted for the meteor strike, you can direct them to "go here" and get out of the way.  ;D

In my games, I have never experienced any meteors, not even the kind that you can collect. I also know about the running away bit too. But my sister was completely unaware of what was going on and was controlling another person, so by the time that she saw what had happened, her sim had already died. And she doesn't care for the Grim Reaper too much. He scares her, so that's why I got the mod.  :P

I have only had one meteor fall ever (and I play quite often)  It land on my school during school hours.  Killed my Sim (the teacher) plus all the kids (10+) inside... a whole generation was gone.

I managed not to throw my computer out the window... or break down crying... but I did say (lots of) bad words and went back to a previous save.

needless to say, I'm not a big fan of meteorites.

 :P

Can't really blame people for wanting some kind of assurance that meteors won't fall on their schools or even their houses. My current family has 5 sim kids and I love them all so much I'm sad that they won't all be heirs. If the school was crushed by a meteor I would be super sad. In fact.... I think I'm going to install blue's mod now that you've got me thinking about it, haha.

The last time a meteor landed on my house, I couldn't get rid of the dirty surroundings moodlet when my sim went to make nectar in the barn. I looked everywhere. Even some of the flowers had been scorched and it wasn't visiblly obvious, but I found them somehow and replaced them. I checked all the windows, the floor, rebuilt the walls, I still couldn't get rid of the moodlet. SO freaking annoying, I never did find out what was wrong. That was a long time ago now, probably a year ago. Don't think I even have that save anymore.

I've read at MTS that this is connected to scripting/non-core mod issues (patch version not matching, etc.), mainly Buzzler's mods have been targeted but it could be other creator's mods too. Were you using mods back then?

Hmm, for that game I was only using AM, and obviously that was the correct patch level since you can't run it on the wrong one. But it might have been related anyhow. I didn't think to take out AM and see if it was related back then, though. Interesting information, thank you :)

If you can't find the dirty object, you can install Twallan's master controller and select "clean all" to clean the whole lot.

Very good tip for anyone who experiences this now!
