Create a World Woes
« on: April 02, 2012, 03:25:43 PM »
Alright, I've been trying to figure out this blasted program forever and many things are bugging me.

1: It says Create a World Beta at the window at the top, not Create a World. Am I using the wrong version or something? It's what I downloaded on the website.

2: The camera movement is frustratingly slow and not as good as the Sims 3 camera. Can I change this?

3: It's too complicated and there are too many options for most of the stuff. Does anyone know a tutorial?

I'd love to use this more, but since of all these features I can't really get farther than making an interesting island shape. :(

EDIT: Oh yeah, I can't figure out how to place streets and sidewalks so they would actually work and not be straight lines that cars most likely wouldn't be able to cross. (I'm mostly talking about intersections.)

Hey guys I'm taking an extended hiatus... again. I'm out of ideas to build houses and I don't have as much fun designing homes like I used to; it feels more like a chore. So that's where I'll be, I will probably be back sometime. :P

There is only the BETA available from the Sims 3 Site. They have yet to fully finish it.  :(

Sadly, I don't think you can, you get used to it after a while though as you learn how it works. I understand what you mean though.

There are many dotted around but none seem to offer a full tutorial to the program. Currently the best thing you can do is when you need something is to search that individual part for help.

When you place a road you have to link the ends together. Basically plot the road up to the edge of the intersection and then exit the road tool and use the move tool to grab the road and some dark blue dots appear. Move those dots to the edge of the section you wish to attach it to and release. When those dark blue dots turn a light aqua colour the road is connected. The best way to make straight roads is to turn the grid on and draw it along one of those lines of the grid which you can rotate at the bottom of the screen.

Well that's too bad. I guess that's good for me though because more updates = more content = more work to figure out what the new things do. :P

Dang it. It can take up to 30 seconds just to rotate around a... mountain range, for example.

Dang. I guess I'll just have to learn most of the stuff by myself. ;(

Okay. That's some solid information I'm sure I'll use. :) (Well duh)

I read a couple tutorials about the basics, and they were very helpful. Also, it's helpful to use the guide EA gives for the tools you're completely unsure of.

Here are the tutorials that I have bookmarked. I found this one extremely helpful. And here is link to MTS. They made a list of tutorials. I haven't looked at all of them, but some are good.

Also, don't expect to get anything decent right away. CAW is very complicated. It's best to just fool around with the tools instead of just trying to dive in and expect a town to miraculously form the first time. I can't tell you how long I spent just trying to make realistic looking mountains before I ever tried to put them in a world.

I'll readily admit the camera is a pain in the neck, though. If you find a way to make it better, you let me know, okay? ;)
