Adding an EP out of order
« on: March 14, 2012, 09:06:50 PM »
I just bought Late Nite and I'm wondering it if will mess anything up if I install it after I already have Generations and Pets installed.  I'm really hoping I don't have to uninstall and re-install all games.   :P

I'd recommend you to try & install as it is. I have bought & installed my EPs in a mixed order too, and they have worked well. I only once had to do a reinstall and I think it was a patching issue, not related to the installation order. Lately I installed Pets and only after it GEN and all is well, also I got AMB before WA etc...

Still, like always, back up your save files just in case, and if you eventually have to do a reinstall for some reason, then install them in order.

It's recommended to install them in order, but not required.

An example of when the games should be installed in order goes WAY back to The Sims 1. Back then, Maxis placed items from EP's into subsequent EP's. So for instance, The Sims: Unleashed came before The Sims: Vacation. In the Vacation World, there were Pets objects placed in some lots. So installing the series out of order would replace the objects with something else: E.G instead of a Doggy Bowl, you might get a recliner.

Oh, and (taken from this thread):

Electronic Arts recommends they be installed in the order of their release.  I don't know what failure to do so will cause.
Well I got base game and ambitions at the same time. I installed base then ambitions. I got WA a couple months later and just installed it. I didn't uninstall anything and I'm not having any problems.
So, you mean that it might only matter if you're installing all of them at once, as in a re-install?
That is correct Pam.  You only need to install them in the order of their release if you are doing a reinstall.  Otherwise, anyone who purchases their games at different times would have to uninstall then reinstall each time they acquired a new game which would make no sense.  They just need to make sure the games update to the highest level at the time of installation.

Also, as long as one remembers to use the latest game disk to play, as Sportsfan said, they should have no issues.
