Patch 1.33 Size=950 MB?
« on: March 15, 2012, 02:41:20 PM »
Hey.

Just saw there was a new patch 1.33 available. After reading the patch description, I thought it was a minor update. So I was really shocked to see it was about 950 MB large. I have only 5 GB of high speed traffic available on my data plan and it's really using up a large part of it.

My question: Is the patch from 1.32 to 1.33 really as large as specified above? Or is it just that it needed more patches, because I  uninstalled Late Night yesterday. I reinstalled everything up from scratch yesterday to patch 1.32, but uninstalled Late Night right away, because I hate it. I had installed all EPs except Pets, which I do not own, plus the High End Loft Stuff pack.

I hope this is the right forum, because I think patches are more technical.

My patches were all current and 1.33 is huge for me too.

Same here. I keep up to date on patches, but seeing the size of this one made my jaw drop. Aside from when I first got  the game [2 months ago], I can't recall a large patch that large.

The incremental Patch needs to be large this time around, to fix the errors incurred with the cumulative patcher released for 1.32.

EA accidentally released a pile of Expansion Pack 7 resources with the cumulative patcher (you may have heard about the werewolf stuff, and rainbow fairy skintones).

To ensure that all that improper information is removed from everyone's machine, they need to release an equally large patch this time around.  There is no way to tell beforehand whether you received the broken 1.32 Patch, so EA is simply forcing the full fix on everyone.

Other than a "whoops our bad" are the bugs that bad still? This is coming from someone on the fence about buying Showtime right now.

There are two types of patches. The regular minor ones, such as 1.33 are just 40-50mb. Yours was a 950mb one because that's a superpatch.

The 40mb patches update your game from the previous version (in this case, 1.32) to the latest (in this case, 1.33).
The 950mb patches update your game from any version (1.x.x) to the latest (in this case, 1.33).

Basically, one is small because it's a "short distance", and the other is big because it's "from beginnig to end".

::EDIT::
There is also a patch that brings you from 1.31 to 1.33, and it's only 118mb.

I had the 950 patch but I did NOT have the superpatch with the werewolf things, etc.  I really haven't had problems with my game other than an occasional stall but then it would begin again.  I just hold my breath each time I play and hope nothing crazy happens.

The werewolf stuff were only in the 1.32 superpatch. The 1.33 not only doesn't have them, it also deletes them.

Superpatches include all the patches since release and are good for any regions, that's why they are so big and also why they can only get bigger with more EP/SP released.

The patch 1.33 comes in two flavors: the super big one = the one for any game, or the incremental patch from 1.31 (and not 1.32). The incremental one is also specific to your location.

Besides this, you may want to know they are some issues with the most recent superpatches 1.3x. Here is what I wrote in their respective threads (link):

Quote
Superpatches 1.31/1.32/1.33 have been found to be *a bit* messy and buggy. You can find detailed explanations by Ellacharm3d at Modthesims here:

http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game%20Help:Issues%20with%201.3x%20Superpatcher

(As a side note, that section "how to patch" on their game help/wiki is a place I keep in my bookmarks all the time, a gold mine of great info ;-)

Basically, for anybody who used the superpatches 1.31 or 1.32 or 1.33, and experience bugs and weird behavior in their game, it's advised to uninstall and reinstall the base game and patch it manually (first to 1.29, then incremental to 1.31 and then 1.33).

There is a bit of technical details, but if you scroll down you can find the "What you need" and "What you do" sections which are super clear with all proper links for what need.

I can only advice to check this ModtheSims link, it's really good piece of info and step by step instructions.
