Trouble with Photographing Sims
« on: December 29, 2011, 10:26:31 PM »
I tried to find a post on this, but I haven't been able to for this specific photography issue. I've always had trouble with photographing sims. I could be standing right in front of them, even having them pose, and I can't get the game to recognize them as A Sim in the Area, or anything else. It makes it almost impossible to get some of the challenges like paparazzi. Maybe about 1 in 20 tries gets recognized as one of the sim or multiple sims photos. Does anyone have a trick to getting this to work? I assume it's not because I've already done Sim in the Area that day, because there are other things, like Outdoor Objects, that come up all the time, even if I've already shot them that day. So why are sims so hard?

And I've made sure there is nothing else in the shot that the game is seeing instead. I take pics at angles with nothing else in the shot. Sometimes I even have the entire sim in the frame, and the game just doesn't recognize them.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I've not had this exact problem, but I have notice the game having a hard time recognizing my sims when I've played the same family for several generations. For instance, the little green box on the left will show a picture of my current sim as she looked when she was an adult, even after she's turned into elderly. And a similar problem is when I've played families and paused the aging process, the sims will look like elderly in the little round thing that appears over them when they are riding a cab or going somewhere.

I realize it's not the same problem you have, but I was wondering if your problem has occurred after playing several generations, or if your playing a rather "new" family?

It is a new family. And interestingly, the game never seems to have trouble photographing my family members, just everyone else. If I try to take a pic of the sim's spouse, it recognizes her for what she's doing (eg A Sim Fishing), and as My Spouse, and something like My Main Squeeze, and sometimes even Housemate. But to get A Sim In The Area, or Two's Company, or any other pic of just a sim, it rarely works, on a family member or any other sim in the game. Almost every time I try to take a picture of another sim, whether a friend or stranger, there is no recognized subject, and it seems not to count towards skill challenges like the paparazzi challenge.

I can't do it either. I've had to cancel the challenges.

I don't have a lot of trouble getting "Two's Company" and "Three's A Crowd," although "A Sim in the Area" proves to be problematic at times.  I can sometimes get it at the park, but not always.

The game can be temperamental lol. Yesterday I get the sim in the area when I take a photo of the consignment store clerk! :o

To get photos of A Sim in the Area I have to find I sim that I have never meet and have no relationship with or it will come up as My Friend. Which can be tough if you've played for awhile and have meet a lot of people in town or even played an instrument in a public place.

If you click on a sim and have the option to introduce yourself to them you don't know them, so try taking a picture of them and see if you get A Sim in the Area.

First, let me explain how it's supposed to work:

When you use the camera, the reticule comes up.  You put your subject where you want it in that reticule and below it a phrase will appear, telling you which photo in which collection the photo would qualify for.  You click the picture, and that photo shows up as completed in the collection.

How it ends up working most of the time is that you have to play around with it, moving the reticule around in order to get the picture you want.  Sometimes, you can't get the image you want to show up in certain locations.  The trick is patience and persistence.

Cell phone pictures do not count towards photo collections, and taking them has no effect on your photography skill.  Likewise, you can get any photo in any collection regardless of your level.  All your level dictates are the odds that the image will be a good one and the options you have available to you.

Well it finally worked. What I did I again put the photo I took of the unloved sims in my inventory. On my camera I still had 45 photos of the same sims. I ended up deleting all the other photos I had & as soon as I did it let me deliver the photo. Im gonna see today if it let's me do it the same way with the mummy & the floor switch

I was able to get the photo of the mummy as well. I took several photos of the mummy. I put the one I liked best in my inventory and again as soon as I DELETED the rest of the photos on the camera it let me deliver the photo. As I posted before it worked the same way with taking the photo of the unloved sims in eygpt. I'm sure it will work the same way with the floor trap and the rubble adventures photos..Hope this helps everyone

Yes, things like this happen quite frequently.  There may have been a Sim somewhere near the bookcase...close enough to trigger the collection category to come up.  A lot of times, taking a picture you want requires you to move things out of the way in build/buy mode, just so nothing else shows up.
