Unearned money added
« on: February 21, 2012, 03:38:00 PM »
I've had this happen several times. Usually at night. In my quite poor family, a $900 + was added to the family funds. There was no reason (like paid day off) to account for it. Has anyone else had this happen? Ive had up to $4,000 added before.

Are your Sims celebrities?  Usually my celebrities get random cash deposits in amounts from really low up to 35,000 one time.

This has been happening for quite some time.  I made a post about it many months ago.  There are different meanings that some have, like cars being sold out of the inventory or things like that.  My first time it happened, it was quite a large sum, so that ruled the old cars.  I am still not sure if anyone has actually came up with a reason as to where it is coming from.  I just enjoy it when it happens, although, it has not happened in quite some time in my game. :)

Oh, I know this one. I've had a similar thing happen in my game; it was a rather large sum of money and it just popped out of nowhere when my sims were asleep. I too don't know why it happened. I might as well note that my sims are usually three to five star celebrities.

I did a quick search for you and found two topics, here and here, on the subject.

This is an odd glitch.  It seems to randomly add the price of a car to the family funds.  Sometimes it's just $900, which is the price of a Sloppy Jalopy.  Sometimes it's the cost of an expensive car.  No reason for it, really, and I guess EA hasn't fixed it.

The reason behind the car issue is the following :

EA has coding in place to sell reserved vehicles that are assigned to sims, when they die.  However, there is an error in that code, in which if an inactive vehicle is sold, the active household gets the proceeds.

So, if the user had played a neighbor at some point, reserved a vehicle for them, and then moved onto another household:  When that neighbor dies, your new household gets the money from the car sale.

Thanks, twallen. That makes sense. I might well have been playing a different family in the same town I started a different family in.
