Best Sim Laptop
« on: February 21, 2012, 03:00:20 PM »
So, my current one year old samsung, which has been giving me issues from the start, is failing on me.  I get blue screened if I move around in the game too much, or even if I twitch the screen over a little when my sims are all doing tasks.  It says its something like the graphics card failing, rebooting and then failing to reboot.  I haven't had a blue screen of death (aka everything disappears), and I'm not willing to risk it.  So, what, in your technical opinions, is the best laptop for the sims 3? Hp? Dell? Inspiron core?  2nd gen?  None of this means anything to me, so a little advice would be awesome.
Oh, and the left click is pretty much dead on the mouse.  I can live with it, but with the six blue screen shut downs I've had so far today, and the four I had yesterday I've had it. Over the holidays I wiped my computer, reinstalled everything, because of this exact problem.  I've virus scanned, run clean ups, checked for solutions online, and basically come up against a wall.  So, new laptop for sims, old laptop for net surfing.

How exciting.  I love the smell of new computers.  ;D

I can't recommend anything in particular and there are always new machines coming onto the market.  One of my technical wizard friends will not consider anything that is not a Toshiba though he will grudgingly admit that ASUS makes a pretty good machine.

Basically, you get what you pay for so bear that in mind when you go shopping.

The thing I would look for specifically would be a decent graphics card - avoid any where the graphics are integrated with the processor. Look for at least 4 gb of RAM.  Maybe when you have narrowed your search down a bit you could then post information about which ones you are looking at and seek recommendations then. ;)

Here you can view the minimum system requirements for The Sims 3. If you want to know your computer's full specifications including RAM size, processor or graphics card version, you should run a dxdiag (to run it on Windows Vista/7 click on the Start button, type "dxdiag" in the Search box and press Enter; to run it on Windows XP press Windows button+R on your keyboard, type "dxdiag" and press Enter).

I would recommend any computer with 4GB RAM that can be upgraded to 8GB. For the graphics card, Nvidia is good and ATI Radeon is not far behind. Intel provides average graphics with rather poor/laggy performance; not recommended.

As for the manufacturer, I'd recommend Asus (my dream computer is Asus G74SX, it's an astonishing gaming laptop and computer overall), Toshiba or Acer. They are all fine. Just make sure that the PC you pick matches all the requirements and/or preferably exceeds them.

Wednesday21 has some great recommendations. My only addition would be splurge for a Sony. I have a personal thing for Sony Vaios and Macs. Also, when you pick out a machine pick out one you want for everything. When I pick out a computer it's for almost ten years or so. Pick a laptop that exceeds the minimum requirements for Pets (current EP) the requirements for Sims is only going to go up from here on out.

Our main computer was having issues, so I went out and bought a Viao JUST for the sims.  I took the disc package with it's requirements, and said , "give me one more powerful since the game will evolve.
So, I'm now confident that my Viao will be able to handle future expansions.
