Blue screen and black buildings? HELP!
« on: February 11, 2012, 05:31:07 PM »
Hey guys, I've been having a huge problem with my game for the past 40 minutes or so. I've looked everywhere online but no one seems to have a solution.

I was playing a sim for a story and had been doing so for more than hour. He graduated and I wanted to take a picture.
I pressed the Tab key and then everything went wrong :(

The screen turned blue all of a sudden.
I've heard of the blue screen of death but this is not the case.
No text appears and I can in fact still control my sim because the panel is still visible. In other words, I can access his inventory items, browse his skills, send him home and even change games settings!
However, regardless of what I instruct him to do or what settings I tamper with, the rest of the screen stays blue. EVEN if I enter edit town!

Simmers online kept asking people with the same problem as me if this happened to other save files so I decided to have a look.
I went into another of my games and indeed there was no blue screen BUT roads, buildings in town, the ground in my house and my sim were completely black. No colors, no detail, no nothing.

I went back to my story file and thought that maybe I could solve the problem by travelling. So I send my sim to china and get the same problem as my other file. (Black buildings, sims, etc.)

I've tried the standard solutions...
Changing game settings
Factory Reset
turning off and back on the DEP settings (someone online said this would work)
And I had my computer cleaned about 2 or 3 weeks ago.
But still nothing.

Has this happened to anyone? Do you know how I can solve my problem?
Thank you for your replies :)

EDIT: I forgot to add, my computer, an hp running windows 7, has always run the game without any major issues (maybe a little slow but nothing unbearable).  I have been playing alot for the past 2 days and everything has been perfect until know. During this time I haven't installed or uninstalled anything and haven't practically used my pc for anything other than simming.

Do you have any custom content installed?

Maybe you should try a clean reinstall and have updated to the latest patches?

It could be a corruption with the save files but I don't entirely know.

Good luck!

No CC, just some store content. But thats never been a problem.

Patch is up to date and I doubt the files are corrupt, I mean, it would be odd for all of them to ruin at the same time. Right?

I'm afraid I might have to fully re-install :(

Have you tried a fresh game just to see if you have the same problem?

It sounds like a hardware issue to me - your video card perhaps.  Have you downloaded the latest drivers?

I believe everything is okay concerning my computer. I wouldnt mind a little more RAM but it's not terrible.

I just tried a new game... At first there were no households in the neighborhood which was odd, so I started a new game in a different neighborhood and everything seems to be working fine.

I guess all my games were indeed bugged :S Time to delete them.

Thanks for your replies  :)
