The Sim 3 pets for Xbox 360 can't do opportunities in the newspaper

I'm trying to do the opportunities from the newspaper: chess tournment, eating contest, etc. and when i go on the day and the time and where it tells me to go, it's not letting me do them. anyone got any ideas as to why?

No worries.  We'll help you out.  One quick thing...  we don't use abbreviations and things need to be spelled out.  So "ty" and "sry" should be "thank you" and "sorry".
