Hi Sydney- Thanks for sharing your post about building a hotel in town. I am really enjoying the architectural and designing feature of this game. I love to build from scratch and decorate all the rooms. I try to get to know a little about the family living in the houses around town and then go and redecorate/remodel for them.

Could you or somebody answer a few questions for me before I build?
1) This seems like a "duh" question to ask, but, do the townies just show up there like they do in the library or fitness center?
2) In the single moms, working friends and roomies houses/apartments in the game the Sims take up residence there. If you want to stay at one of these locations at night you have to ask one of the Sims that live there if you can sleep over. Will this happen in the new hotel as well?
3) Are there any restrictions concerning which appliances can be placed in the hotel? The reason I ask is I have built inside of community buildings before and the game would not allow me to buy a stove or microwave to place in them. I like to spoil my Sims so I built a cute little cafe in the upstairs level of my library and I wanted to include a microwave and it would not let me place one there. Here is a picture of the cafe in case anybody is interested in seeing it.

Thanks again for sharing the great idea!

Hi catlover!

Do you build houses and upload them to the Exchange on the official Sims 3 site?  If so, and if you don't use any third party custom content or mods, I'd like to look at your houses.  I'm not a builder and if I want something nice and fancy, I have to get it from the Exchange.  Problem with that is I don't know what they put into their houses and stuff I don't want ends up in my game.  I've found a few builders who don't use custom content or mods, but not many.

Hmmm, I wonder.  Can you imagine putting stoves or microwaves in and sims with no cooking skills will use them.  Talk about fire city, maybe that is why.  In sim2 anyone could use the stoves and there were usually fires there too.

Can't you just turn the lot into a residental lot, putting the microwave there (among some other stuff that can't be put on a community lot), get out of there and then turn the lot back to a community one? I'm not quite sure if the microwave will get deleted or not, doing this, but you could try.

When you go from Residential to Community the Stove gets deleted.

Hi Pam - I am still fairly new to playing the game and do not have any clue about mods or third party content. I only just heard about them since I found this site. I have read many times on this forum from you and the other administrators about the risks in using them so I will not even consider them. The only content I use is what was already included in the game and I have downloaded a few things from the Exchange like clothes, furniture and decor items. I remember reading a post on here where you warned somebody that there may still be a risk in downloading from the exchange because some people use mods and content that may not be safe so I haven't used it since I read that. How do you know what is safe in the Exchange Store at the main site?

I have built only 1 home so far from the ground up, but I have remodeled and redecorated many of the homes and community lots around the town. I haven't downloaded my home at the exchange yet, but intend to when I learn how to. I am still new at this and I am still trying to learn as I go. You and the other people here on the forum have taught me everything I know about this game, so I thank you very much. Here are a few pictures of my log cabin home, please remember I am still an amateur at this, but I don't think it looks too bad. It is located in Sunset Valley by the waterfall.

I will take some pictures of the inside and post them. Thanks for looking and for letting me share!

Very nice!

About the stuff on the exchange being safe, well the truth is you don't know if the creator has used CC so I have now decided to clear out most Exchange CC.

He catlover, nice house you've build there. Lovely place to, near the waterfall. I always imagine that you must have steel bledder, when living there and hearing the waterfall all day and night. :P Haha!
To be back on topic: It is indeed not possible to see what selfmade stuff uploaders put in the homes they download but if you really want to have that certain house where you have doubts about you could choose to have a backup file of your save file. That way you can always go back to your original one, in case things are getting wrong.

I live near the water and there's an aquarium next to my bed. Believe me, you get used to it!

Marvelous house catlover. One thing is certain; you're better than me (which maybe isn't a great achievement ::), but you've gotten my respect as a house-builder). ;)

Sidney's original post here has made me rethink about changing my cabin to a community lot. I think it would be a good move considering I built it so that I could put my adult kids there so that I could keep track of them easier, but it has not worked out the way I had planned. Every time I sign back into my game the kids have moved out and the townies have moved in and I have to go to edit town to put them all back where I want them to be. I give up....let the townies have their own way-they're going to anyway. lol. Another reason to make the switch is because I have learned that if the home is a residence then only a max of 8 Sims can live there at a time whether you control them or not. If it's a community lot, then I'm guessing there isn't a limit. The cabin has plenty of bedrooms and even a really huge nursery. The first level is solely designed for entertainment. The next level is living space for the kitchen and dining/formal living room area. Then there are actually two more upper levels. The fourth level was added after I took the photo's I posted above. The two upper levels have several bedrooms and bathrooms-all decorated with different styles. I tried to stick to nature themes because of location, and the fact that it is a log cabin. I really enjoyed the entire process of creating it, but it wasn't a smooth process by no means. I've learned many hard lessons from this project. Primarily about saving your game often through the process. My first two attempts went south due to the game crashing and the dreaded error codes. I spent many hours, too many to count on those first two attempts only to lose everything and have to start from the beginning again. It was worth it all when I saw how nice it turned out though.

Thanks for the nice comments and the information about the Exchange.

Sorry for not posting...

Catlover, I saw your questions. I was about to answer them, but I guess you figured it out.

Oh, and of course there is restrictions, but you can easily place BBQ's outside for some nice home cooked meals.

Oh, and nice idea on the little cafe. I might consider that next time I build a hotel thing. Last time I made one it was a simple cottage with basic things inside.

Anyways, thanks for the nice comments!
