Sounds silly, but I assumed that the preview would show up, but it doesn't - you have to click 'save profile information' at the bottom of the page and then it will change your avatar.

Pam, I tries uploading a picture last night and it never posted. Am I doing something wrong? I took it from the screenshot file.

Screenshot file...hmmmm!!! Are you trying to load an in game screenshot from your My Documents Folder where the TS3 game users data is located? If yes, that is most likely the cause of this forums avatar routine rejecting your upload. The screenshots in your My Documents folder from the game camera are full size (BIG FILE SIZE) pictures. Every forum I've ever had membership with, have restrictions on avatar file size and pixels. Acceptable avatar sizes are most usually in the 'thumbnail' range for acceptable size files.

If you have an official ts3 forum user account, try going to your homepage there. Right mouse click on your avatar there and copy...to your desktop. Then come back here to this forum and from your profile setting try loading the avatar headshot you saved to your desktop from the official ts3 forum.

I hope this helps and didn't muddy the water even more than it already seems to be.

Cheers! You'll get it.  ;D

YES I did it!!
Unfortunately my Sim isn't very smiley - not much like me.
She is of course also completely perfect looking haha, not a hair out of place!
Thanks Pam and Grandpa.
(funny how calling you Grandpa immediately makes me fond of you!)

Kat, you did it. Congratulations! Looking good too ("...completely perfect looking..."). I've got to say that all the sim gals here are looking real good. Now if we could just run Metro through the old TS2 'plastic surgery machine... just kidding Metropolis Man.  8) Dude, You really rock!

A plastic surgery machine?! Heh. Only in the Sims do you get something like that. I never played TS2. Made the jump from Sims 1 to Sims 3 with about a 5 year addiction to Diablo II thrown in between.

I know what happened to your avatar! You were very attractive before you used that machine! The machine had a malfunction (which could really happen if your aspiration bar was really low) and now you have, well... an uncommon appearance.

Once one of my sims married a very pretty sim, but her nose was, you know, like witches usually have. So I made her use the machine and well, her nose was perfect, but here face was like the face of someone with a tumor...

(I did for no reason want to offend anyone)

So just for confirmation (in case I tire of Bob Marley ::)), you have to upload the sim to the exchange and then somehow save it onto your hard drive? How exactly do you do that?

I think Grandpa covered how to copy it from your profile on the official site to the desktop.  Was that your question?

Sorry Pam, don't have a TS3 forum account. If i get one, how can I make/bring an avatar there in the first place?

I know what you mean, but that's not exactly what I refer to. Anyway, ignore that from now on, it was not such big question. Should the need arise I could probably solve it myself, that's half the fun!  :D

I followed your instructions and now I have my own Sim Self as an avatar.  Thank you.

You could right click the avatar you want to use by accessing your Sims 3 profile, clicking on the Sim you made, then right clicking the picture of the avatar and you will get a drop down menu, and select "View Image" you will see the image by itself, copy the url and paste it where you select your avatar, and make sure you select "from URL option." Click "change settings" and your avatar will show up.
