The Jockey LTW

So, I figured now was the time to finally end my months of lurking here and actually register since I have a question to ask!

The Sim I'm currently playing, Flick Marsh, has The Jockey LTW. To refresh your memory, that entails reaching level 10 of the Riding skill and to 'win/earn $40,000 using your horses'. I took that to mean I'd be able to reach this 40k goal not only by entering equestrian competitions, but also by selling horses and offering stud services.

Only trouble is, she only seems to be making money towards that goal with her competition winnings. By now she's made well over $50,000 in total from competitions, selling horses and stud services but when I hover over her LTW she's only made $14,100/$40,000 - I've been keeping track and that's the exact total of her competition winnings, so obviously it's not been counting profits from stud services and selling horses towards her total.

I don't know if I'm being dense and that competition winnings are the only way to earn the $40,000 for The Jockey, I just assumed it would include selling/stud services since the LTW says 'win/earn $40,000 using your horses'.

After all that rambling, what I'm really looking for is a definitive answer on whether competitions are the only way to reach The Jocket LTW! All answers greatly appreciated :)

Congrats on delurking and welcome to the forum!

The simple answer is yes! Only the money earned from competitions at the Equestrian Center counts toward the Jockey LTW. You can count on +- 1400$ for a 1st place in a racing competition, and it's possible to do 2 competitions per day. So 7 days x 2 wins x 1400$ =  19600$/week. The LTW is not so hard when you have a skilled rider and a horse.

I think that jumping and cross country competitions bring a bit less money. International competitions bring more, but are also harder to win. Yet, even if you don't make 1st place, you still win some $ with advanced and international competitions.

I also find that it raises your chance to win if the Sim and the horse have a good stack of positive moodlets. And although I'm not 100% sure of this, I'm under the impression that there is some hidden counter of how many competitions of a certain type and level have been won. The higher this counter is, the more chance to win.

And one of the Riding skill challenge is Equestrian Champion (win 20 advanced or international competitions). This will increase the prize money received by your Sim once it's unlocked. Since the advanced level competitions are much easier to win (with trained horse/Sim), I usually compete only in those until I unlock the challenge. And then only tackle the international ones.

Stud service and horse selling, in addition to competitions' prizes, only count toward the Horseman (woman) self-employed career.

Ah, thank you so much Bella! That was really helpful.

I'm not having any trouble with making money on competitions, I'd just stupidly been concentrating more of my efforts onto raising and training foals to sell with the expectation that that would count towards the goal! Silly me.

Thanks very much for clearing that up for me :)
