Selling your stuff.
« on: October 05, 2009, 06:50:10 AM »
I just noticed something and I couldn't find mention of it in the guide.

Now I know you can sell practically everything by dragging it to the simoleons box in inventory, very handy if you don't want to bother with running around town, but I just found out you might not want to do that.
For example I had a butterfly worth 78 simoleons but when I sold it at the science facility they gave me 96, a bell pepper worth 48 sold for 52 and a seed worth 27 sold for 29 at the store. Same thing with books, you get more if you get out of the house and sell stuff at the appropriate place.

So if you want to maximize your profits it pays to make the trip.

Don't know if this is news to anyone, it was to me.

Also you can sell seeds at the store but they don't get included in the Sell all vegetables option, which is good. And I haven't found a place where you can sell the rocks and gems for more money.

This is completely new for me.
I've always sold my stuff from the inventory.

This might be something worth exploring.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who missed it. I think it adds up to a lot over time. I just now picked up a beetle worth 94 simoleons, the science fools will give me 128! That's 30 % extra!

But then I have a book worth 17, the book store will only give me 18. Okay, so my sim wrote it himself, it's his first book so I'm sure it sucks.

Point is, it varies how big the difference is.

Could be more worth it with higher skills.
If the difference is $1,- I won't go all the way to town to sell a book.
That time can be better spend making another novel, but if the difference really is 30 percent on some items, sure why not.

I think originally they wanted to make stuff that can only be sold at store.
But people are lazy so they made the handy dandy sell stuff panel at a loss of lower profits.

Hi...yeah I knew you could get more by going to the appropriate places.  The only things I drag to the sell box is newspapers, iron ( ::)) and space rocks.  I haven't found anything else to do with the space rocks, so if someone knows could you post?  :)

You could analyze it to find out whether its worth more than its initial value.
After that you could pretty much sell for money or use it for display in your display area.
I know that gigantic rock in the living room looks fantastic.

Yeah, I wondered about the space rocks myself  ???  I would have thought you could sell them at the Science lab or Military base for more money, but no  :o.  I kept a couple for decorating, but after analyzing them I sell them.  ;)

It disappoints me that the first metal to be smelted is high value gold. I'm sorry, but smelting silver should be profitable. Sadly, at the moment it's always taking a loss if you do these things. At least they look pretty stacked up on a night stand.
