Roofs and The Building Guide's Future
« on: November 18, 2011, 11:28:53 PM »
Twinmum came to me with an article idea this week, asking whether I'd want a guide to Roofs for the site. She was going to make a forum topic anyway, but instead gave me the exclusive for the guide. It's super appreciated and will really help a lot of people with their home's look. She's noticed, and I definitely agree, that many players don't bother changing the roof settings to refine their look. Homes can look much better with a nice roof -- after all, sometimes the roof is as tall as the house itself!

Here's the new Roof Guides and Tutorials, a 3-page piece by Norma. Starting out on that page, you'll get a nice introduction to the Roof Tools. She also provides Techniques to getting some real-life roofs to work in the game. Lastly, there are general Tips to a Better Looking Roof.

Thank you very much for this, Norma. I am sure our novice builders will love it and you've made my weekend!

Norma is going to help me with some additional articles, probably starting with information on Edit Town that has been absent too long. I got a request for this recently, and it got me wanting to expand on our building section that TommyT started. He's a great guy for giving us that so long ago, and went off to the Coast Guard so was never able to give us an advanced page. Norma contacted me at the perfect time with this Roofs idea. I hope that we can expand this section a lot with her help.

Maybe if you have an idea for a needed building article, you can post it here!

Edit: I realize my tone makes things sound absolute. For the moment, that is how things are happening. Twinmum is interested in making more for us and I will gladly accept them. As we know, things can change and people can change their minds. I made this edit just to point out it's an open-ended idea. She's going to do what she can, and when she draws the line I shall others to continue to expand the section :)

It is something we have wanted to do a while, but actively pursuing it now is great. I am very grateful for her coming to me in the first place.

These are great! They're exactly the sort of thing I wanted to read when I first started building. I look forward to seeing more building tutorials on the Guide.  :)

What a clear and informative article Twinmum! I'm guilty of always using the auto roof tool, but I won't be after reading this. Thank you :)

Nicely done, Twinmum!  I'm pretty slow at learning some of the Sims stuff but this has really made it much easier for me.  Roofs have been an ongoing nightmare for me till now!  Thanks so much.
