Sims 3 crashes to desktop
« on: November 18, 2011, 07:47:07 AM »
OK, I have all the expansion packs plus the stuff packs installed. Lately when I load up Sims 3, the game will crash to the desktop after 5 to 10 minutes. Then when I reload the game after the initial crash, it seems to run fine.

My question is, this problem did not appear before the installation of Pets. My OS is Windows 7 64-bit by the way, and the game meets all recommended setups.

Is anyone else facing this same annoying problem? How do I fix this issue?

By the looks of it, I run the same setup, and I generally only have graphical glitches.

Do you run any Mods or CC?

No, I don't run any mods or CC. But the only thing that is in my Sims 3 is the official store contents. That is about it.

Have you done any clean up on your computer or the game lately?  There are are topics on the Technical Help board that will tell you some things to do.  After all that, you may be looking at a complete re-install of the game.  Have you done one of those lately?

Thanks for the kind reply. I have not done any clean up on my computer or the game lately. Nevertheless, I think I can live with this problem because it always happen only once when I start the game. When I start playing after the initial crash, there are no other crashes. What is strange is that when I save the game after about 5 minutes of starting the game, there won't be any crashes but when I do not save it, after 5 to 10 minutes the crash will occur.

This is indeed peculiar!

Have you tried enabling Data Execution Prevention?

Open System Properties.

Go to Start.
Then Control Panel.
Then open System.
Click Advanced System Settings. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Under Performance, click Settings.

Click the Data Execution Prevention tab, and then click Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select.

Click on Add and browse to TS3W.exe under...
