Graphics Card and System Requirements
« on: October 26, 2011, 08:44:09 PM »
Thanks everyone! Back in June, my bf was down and said my computer was awesome. He's a computer genius so he would know. Last night, the friend that was going to build me a computer was over and he looked at my computer and said it was awesome, the only thing wrong with it was the graphic card wasn't meant to play hard-core games like The Sims. So long story short, next month when I get the money he's going to come over and install a new card and clean it up so it will run faster and better. He also said if he did build me a computer, it wouldn't be much better than the one I have now, he also said not alot of people have almost 6 GB on their computer like I do, so those people clearly didn't have a clue about it when they said my computer was crappy. Yes, the graphic card is bad but everything else is superb and I would believe 2 computer geniuses that have looked at my computer over everyone that just saw pictures. Wouldn't you guys?  ;D

I'm with you on that Esther.

I also want to say I had never even thought of joining the Official forum. I only read some of the posts when I needed info on the games. That is until I found this site, and after browsing for awhile joined up because I realized the people on this site are genuinely nice and the moderators help keep us in line.

Besides that, this site has given me a whole different look at playing the game. I used to just play, until I saw what others were doing and read some of the stories. Thanks to all for giving me more fun from the game. Now, I can't seem to leave my computer for more than a few hours!

I'm glad you're getting a new graphics card. Now you can marvel at the beauty of Sims 3. :D
But I do have to say this, now that I think about it. People on the other forum weren't being that rude. Most of them were saying that your graphics card couldn't handle the Sims 3 game anymore which was the case wasn't it? Since your friend is putting a better one in your computer. But anyway, like I said, glad you'll be able to enjoy the game better.

I understand what you're saying, but I think they were being rude - "Your computer must be crap" isn't exactly the sort of thing you'd say when you first meet someone.

@Esther
When I read the Halliwell's, I always look at the pictures, then I register my game used to look identical to that.
If you get a new graphics card, and an up-to-date one at that, your game will be able to handle awesome graphics! Mine can now handle Advanced Rendering, and a lot of sliders on high. (It's Radeon, if anybody's interested)

Being rude isn't usually about what one actually says.  It's almost always a matter of how it is said.  It is entirely possible to say something that is 100% factual in a way that is not at all nice and is totally inconsiderate about another person's feelings.  In fact, that's pretty much the norm for most of the internet.

I was a regular poster in the official forums, so I've seen rude posters quite a bit.  After I found this forum, I realized that it doesn't actually have to be that way, and so I rarely go there anymore.  I will sometimes read threads looking for answers to questions (which I don't often find there), but I almost never post anymore.

This has gotten way off topic, so I'm going to split these last few posts into a new topic on the Technical Help board.

Hosfac and Seabody are right. It's one thing to say your graphics card can't handle Sims 3 anymore, but it's another thing to insult someone's computer, and tell them their graphics suck. If someone said to me on the forum "You need to replace your graphics card in order to render the pets properly." I would thank them for the advice, and ask what they use, and how it helps them. Now, if that person were to say "Your graphics card sucks, and your computer is too old." That is something I would take offense to. It doesn't matter what you say, it's how you say it.

First off, Pam I'm sorry for going off topic!  :-[ And they are right. The people on the official forums saw pictures of my pets and said my computer was crappy. My boyfriend and another friend actually looked at my specs, my system and my entire computer and said my computer was awesome, the only thing wrong was my graphic card wasn't able to play hard-core game like the Sims. See the difference in that? Looking at pictures is very different than looking at the computer itself. And if I just went off-topic again, I'm sorry again!!
