Long Distance Friend LTR?

I'm no good at keeping friends in The Sims. My spouses always end up at Acquaintance status.

I know that the Long Distance Friend LTR says "Friends will never become Distant Friends, even if you ignore them for a while. They know you're good for it in the long run", or something like that. I'm wondering - does it actually freeze relationships? Because I read on the guide:

This lifetime reward is great for keeping friendships. It will help your Sim to build up more friendships, because current friends won't need maintenance. Still, your Sims only need so many friends to get by in the game, so I don't very much like this reward.

And a post by Schipperke, in which I couldn't get a definite answer from (though I might be being thick).

So my question is: If I use this in my Dynasty, will Banana and/or Cucumber (Generations 1 & 2) ever need to talk to friends after attaining Best Friend status?

Only if you want to.    Once taken the relationship will never drop below the point it's at. You can raise it, or not worry about it. You can also get this reward with one of the Charisma skill challenges...have 20 friends. Once you attain that the same applies, the relationship won't drop below where it's at.

The sims become listed as an 'old friend' if you don't speak to them for a while, but the bar stays the same. So sims can have enough experience for best friends, but the description says 'old friend'.

Seabody, I'm sorry if my post was confusing!  I always get the Long Distance Friend LTR for my Sims because, as you said in your first post, I'm not very good at maintaining Sim friendships.  As amyrose noted, once you have the LTR your relationships won't ever decay. 

But you can still lose friends if you have Late Night installed.  After installing LN - and allowing my Clan Douglas Dynasty members to start down the slippery slope of celebrity - they were forever being falsely accused of idiotic things (peeing in public?  The artist who never leaves home and who has Steel Bladder?) and losing friends, sometimes as many as 5 at a time.  I was so annoyed about all that, that I uninstalled LN.  But apart from the celebrity thing, if you have that LTR you shouldn't ever lose friends even if you never talk to them again.
