Help wanted on how to use Edit Town
« on: April 29, 2010, 10:46:10 AM »
I must admit so far I haven't used Edit Town much except to place house and move in/merge sims, oh, and CAS obviously. I have two questions regarding using Edit Town:

1. Is it possible to see the inside of a home first before buying it? I haven't figured out how to do that if it's possible, and I always found it a bit strange that your sims can't check out the inside of the house before buying. A bit like choosing a house from the estate agent and buying it before seeing it.

2. Is it possible to edit the furniture inside houses (excluding your house obviously). Main reason I ask this is that my sim met a guy in China who she likes, but is not ready to have him move in yet. However when she visits him in China they can't woohoo or sleep together as the house only has one double bed and the rest are singles. And the double bed is always being used by the couple that live there. So I was wondering if I could edit that house from Edit Town and change one of the single beds into a double bed.

Any help much appreciated   :)

Not sure if you can see inside a house but if you hover over a house it will tell you how many bathrooms and bedrooms it has.

If the house is empty then you can look inside by choosing Build/Buy from the house menu.

As LaB says when you select a house in Edit Town mode you will get an idea of bedrooms and bathrooms and sometimes a description of the house. From this pop up you can select Build/Buy and look inside the house. I do this all the time when looking for houses for my Sims.

Once the house is occupied I don't think you can look in / change anything. Obviously your Sim could ' pop over' and as to go in but you can't change anything inside.

If you want your Sim to WooHoo without commitment then you can always ask him to meet your Sim at base camp (where there is at least 1 double bed) or ask him to stay when she is at home (invite foreign visitors on the phone).

I hope that helps

Thanks for all the advice, it worked. I don't know why I didn't think of pressing the build/buy button. Normally i press everything I can find just to see what happens.

As for my sim's Chinese romantic interest, I've had him over to Sunset Valley where they have successfully tried for a kid (i hope, heard those chimes), however I wanted it to be a bit more realistic when my sim went over to China. Kinda feels weird inviting him over to the base camp. Reminds me too much of when I used to do lots of travelling and had to stay in hostels (not me doing the inviting! Just to clear that up, but I observed plenty of others doing that).

You can change things inside of an occupied house.  While your Sim is visiting inside, do testingcheatsenabled true and shift-click the floor inside the house.  You'll get a Build and Buy option for that lot.  You can then do anything you want to the inside of it.  :)

Ah, so that's how it works with the cheat. Must admit I very very rarely use cheats. I've used the kaching and motherlode before just to help my storyline and focus on certain issues (e.g. my tomb raiding sim wanted her to have a decent house so I could focus all on doing the tomb raiding, but not too much that she doesn't have to worry about money), i've also used the cheat to change traits on newly made sims when I've discovered that i've chosen the wrong trait. But that's it. I guess using a cheat in this instance is not really changing the focus of the gameplay, just making it more realistic maybe.

I use this cheat a lot when I go into houses with babies and there are no cribs.  I just can't stand the thought of a little one not having a place to sleep.  :)
