Share help please
« on: November 06, 2011, 04:19:56 AM »
When I try to save a house to library or click to share it tells me doing this will cancel sim to sim connections or some such?  What I am trying to do is save the house that I'm currently playing, so I don't want it removing, just copying so I can use it again any time I want. [and maybe upload as it's a neat little starter home I think]

Am I doing something wrong? How do you save/copy/upload etc and not lose the one you're playing?

Thanks

The message that pops up says that it will cancel all interactions by your Sims. So if you Sim was at work when you tried to upload/save the House that interaction would be cancelled and when you went back to your Sim again you'd have to send them back to work. You won't lose the House you have or any progress but to make sure you can save before entering Edit Town.

Ooh, just realised. Is your Sim living in the House? If so then it's different. You have to evict the Household, you may lose opportunities that were accepted by doing this. Then the Household will be placed on the 'clipboard' which is bacially a grey square on your left screen. Then click the House Tab and upload/save and you are able to only save the house. Then just simply move the family back in by clicking on them in that grey square, they should be able to afford their house because the game sells the house and the funds are put into the Sims funds.

Does any of that make sense?

EDIT: This Tutorial I did for the Contests may be of use to you, it doesn't match your situation but it shows how to upload an empty lot.

It makes perfect sense thank you.  What's worrying me is I'm in the middle of doing an old challenge, and I don't want to lose the progress so far?  Maybe I need to be patient and wait til I complete the challenge, then do this? My biggest problem is being like a kid at christmas, wanting to do what I want right now and wanting to join in with what others on the forum are doing. You'd think at my age I would know better hahahaha. [good job my grandkids are too young to find me out]

The writer one from early 2011.  Trial run and learning curve for me as I'd like to be able to enter challenges in 2012 but am hopeless at the moment. She's self-employed and already 1 star celebrity so i'm guessing  she'd lose both? Also guessing she'd lose the list of books written and read so far? I best wait another 11 sim weeks!

I don't think you'd lose anything. I think the only thing you'd possibly lose is Relationships but I don't think you do using this method. Like I said, if you save before you do it, then do the saving/sharing and then move the Sim back in, if everything is gone just quit to the menu without saving. You may even keep the House saved into the Library.

I had a little brain-wave and opened the game file, then used save as giving it a different name. The went used that version to try saving to library and share.  All I have  to do now is load the original version to continue  my game.  ;D   No idea why I didn't think of that  before.

Now to go work through the instructions on your link for uploading to the forum. Fingers crossed I get it right.

EDIT:  Ok scary time.  I went ahead and uploaded to the forum. I so hope I didn't do anything wrong? It's here: http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/forum/index.php?topic=7633.0
