Freezing When Saving

Hello all,
My GF is having some major problems with her Sims 3 game freezing when saving.
I first throught it was a RAM issue so popped another 4gb in (8 in total) and although the game runs a lot better it still freezes about once a day (sometimes more) when she is saving. It just hangs on the saving logo.

 She has been saving every 15 minutes to prevent losing heaps of data but when it freezes she loses about 2 hours anyway.

She is running Sims 3 and about 7 expansions.

From what I can tell googling the problem there is hundreds of similar cases but no fix?

She clicks "save" and "Save as" still loses 2+ hours of work although she saves every 15 minutes.

ANY ideas would be welcome I did fiddle with her save files with the .backup etc but the whole thing confused me and it didnt seem to change anything.

Sadly this is a bit of a game breaker

Have you tried performing clean up functions on the game?  There are caches and temporary files that can be deleted to make the game run better, which should also make the save process better.  Here are some topics that explain how to do some of these procedures.

Tried all of these and although the game is running better than ever the save freeze is getting worse

Tried saving every 2 minutes and STILL it freezes. Then when she reloads the game its like 4 saves back and she has lost heaps of progress.

There is a point where the game stops recognizing saves if you have too many in your Saves in your Saves folder.   That point is somewhere near 100 files.  Is this the case for her?   Also, does she have seasons?  There is a building glitch that will cause a game to freeze after you have built something.   The best way to avoid that freeze is to try and freeze 24 Sim hours after you've finished building.

I was having a similar problem, where my game was unable to save after using Buy or Build Mode or Edit Town.  The save icon would just keep spinning around endlessly.  Doing a factory reset saved my game.  If you think you might want to try that, this thread gives more details of how to do it.

The only time I have problems saving is occasionally when I try to edit town, or (more often) build a 2nd story onto my house.  In my current game I can't build a second floor onto the house or the game crashes automatically.  Every single time. 

After googling and talking with people I think I finally determined it has something to do with the seasons expansion.  Seasons seems to cause all sorts of weird glitches in the game for me. 

Your problem seems a little different though, as it sounds like you are losing previous saves in addition to the most recent one.

*edit* Just curious, does she have any mods or custom content?  If so she may want to try disabling it.  Also, have you tried a full reinstall (pain in the butt, I know)?  That has fixed lots of odd problems for me in the past.  You can back up your sims in the sim bin, and previously saved games before doing so to prevent lost data.

There is a sticky that lists all the posts that can help if you are having technical issues.  The reason for this is because we had more stickies than you could see on one page of the that board.  In fact the link you gave is actually on the post Pam linked.
