Romantic Relationships and Dead Spouses

Is there a way to clear the RI relationship with a dead sim without using the Clean Slate LTW? One of my sims was faithfully married to another who died. He needs to marry again, but it still shows an active relationship with the dead sim. I am sure he will get the reputation as a cheater if he does not clear that.

Wait until the dead spouse's ghost comes out, and break up with them through the mean interactions. That's the only way I know of.

When my sim found another love, he asked her to break up with Matthew (her dead husband), and a notice popped up "I guess Matthew won't mind". Her reputation didn't change for me.
