I have an issue. I can decorate a room, a house and landscape it. But I can't build a nice floor plan. How do you organize floor plans? Mine are usually very bad with a really long hallway in between and it looks very bad. Any help?
When building larger houses, I find that hallways are unavoidable, but they can become very nice sitting areas/libraries. In order to minimize hallways, I try not to have too many must-have entry rooms on a single floor. Like, you know how private bathrooms only open into a bedroom? Well, you can do the same with other rooms. For example, you only really need a door to the dining room through the kitchen. Also a laundry room can be attached to a half-bath and a library can be accessed through a study/art room. In this way, you can have a smaller amount of doors/arches on your walls, and you can use these walls to set up living or sitting rooms. Some people don't really like layouts like this, and I have to agree that sometimes they don't really work for certain style houses. It all depends on your personal preference.
