Fridge and Food Replicator
« on: December 06, 2009, 06:11:42 PM »
Ok, my best fridge (not the chef rewarded one) doesn't seem to work the first time I buy it, but I never had them cook anything to store as leftovers until they mastered the skill, so it's possible I didn't check in time.  Now, it does work but then food spoils as if there was no fridge if the fridge depreciates down to the lowest it can get, which is $1,080 simoleons for the best fridge.  Then, I have to take everything out, sell the old fridge and buy a new one, and it works again until the fridge is fully depreciated.  This is kind of annoying.

Second, this just happened with my most recent couple, but when they stored perfect French toast in their food replicator, the replicated version came out putrid from the start.  I guess the only other time I've had food replicators I've only put crepes and hamburgers in it, so I don't know if it's the machine or the food that's bugged.

This is probably one of the more annoying side effects of these patches. I was doing the same thing buying a new fridge. Got tired of that, so I was just taking out the food and "selling it" for zero in my inventory. But, here is the weird thing that might work. I happened upon this by accident. I went though, and bought again, the best fridge. I was doing a custom look in my kitchen, when I changed the fridge to match my cabinets. Weird thing is, ever since I did that, no food spoils fast at all. In fact, my sim is only a level 6 cook and it lasts a LOOOONNNG time. Don't know if that will work for you, but for some reason, it worked for me. :o
I will love him and squeeze him and pet him and call him George!!

I've had a lot of problems with the refrigerator, too, since World Adventures came out. But now I'm sometimes able to get one that works better than the others.  I just kept deleting them and buying new ones hoping that one of them would work.  I don't see any real pattern to it.  Also, the refrigerator in my China vacation home works fine.  Except now it's causing a "bad food" moodlet.  I can't get it cleaned out and when I try to delete the refrigerator, it tells me that it contains something being used by one of the Sims in the house.  I'm hoping it will fix itself when they go home and then return to China later.

On the Food Replicator, it's not a World Adventures bug that's making it produce a putrid meal.  My Dreamweaver has had a Food Replicator for a long time and it often produces a bad quality meal even though the original meal was perfect.  It's just part of the game in that sense.  However, if a Sim has the Handiness skill, he/she can give it an "Improve Memory" upgrade that helps reproduce the original quality.

My Sims did give it the improve memory upgrade already.  I think that just increases the number of times you can replicate a dish to 20 from whatever it is originally.

Strange, my other family that travels all the time always got only perfect meals in their French vacation home.  They use the replicator there almost exclusively so they can have more time to explore and work on skills.

I think those reward objects are supposed to malfunction randomly. Like the moodlet manager will sometimes zap the Sims instead of curing them.

Re: the fridge. I replace the fridge with a different model than what they had, that seems to work. Sometimes the spoiling comes back though, especially after they return from trips. But not always. Random. :P

Pam, I just read this post that you left back in Dec. I have just recently left a post on the forum somewhere else, (Under mysterious trash glitch), about the same problem in my game. Do you remember how you finally got past it? In my game, supposedly one of my kids is in use of the refrig. and now that I have purchased a second refrig. the same problem has occurred again except with a different kid in the household. I have managed to get a look inside of the first refrig. and I know it is a spoiled cheesesteak sandwich. I have a picture to post and I will get it posted on the forum as soon as my Son can help me with it. I have now purchased a third refrig. but not the same as the past two refrigerators. I have wondered if I get one of the adults to move out with the two kids, and then close the game and reopen if that would disconnect the kids from the refrigerators. Do you think that would work?

Hi catlvr.

I've had this happen a couple of times.  If I recall correctly, shutting down the game and restarting solved the problem of having the refrigerator being "in use" by a Sim.  You can also try the (ctrl+shift+C) cheat "moveobjects on" and see if you can delete the refrigerator that way.

Thanks for getting back with me....I have good news!
I finally have the solution for the spoiled food glitch in the game. I found the answer on the main Sims forum from member "Polly75".... she gives a step by step procedure to get rid of the spoiled food and it worked!
Basically all you do is zoom in close to your refrigerator, send your Sim to the refrigerator for food, once they open the refrigerator door, quickly press pause. You should see a plate with the spoiled food on it. You may have to use the moveObjects on cheat to grab the plate and take it out of the refrigerator and set it down where the Sim can now go to it and clean it up. Press the play button and let the Sim finish whatever command you gave them, and when they are through with that send them to clean up the spoiled food plate....End of problem! I hope this will help out others who might come across this annoying glitch in the game. Thanks again for your advise....I really love this forum! It's really nice that we can find help and encouragement from each other here. Take Care!
