Travel Problems
« on: July 07, 2010, 09:53:27 AM »
I don't think there's a thread for this yet.  In the Random Wishmaster Challenge, I have repeatedly had problems when I have taken one of my sims travelling.  I believe others are also having trouble but I don't know the specifics of their problems.

Here's what has happened to me:  One of my sims came back from China cloned.  I deleted the clone, but next time that same sim travelled, she completely disappeared.  I was there in China but there was no sim anywhere, including no icon at the left side of the screen.  I scrapped that game and those characters.  Created new characters with the same traits and started over.  In my present game, one of the other characters had been travelling with no problems.  But the first time I took the Jane character travelling (the one with the same traits as in the first game), she did not return from the trip.  I found her in her sister's relationship panel listed as a foreign resident, and was able to get her to rejoin the household by inviting her to visit, socializing, and getting her to move back in.  But everything from her inventory was gone, including the collection helper, motorcycle, fish, etc, etc.  Even the food replicator from the family inventory.

I'm wondering if it's just chance that both times, the problems were with this particular character.  The only significant difference between her and the other 3 in my game - that I can think of - is that she is the only one that has any of the new Ambitions traits (eco-friendly).  Could that possibly have anything to do with it?   Maybe I'm grasping at straws, but I'm trying to figure this out.

What sort of problems have other people had, and has anyone found a solution?  Is there any pattern to this?

Traveling with items in inventory seems to be a common source of some weird bugs. Shipperke, try traveling with this buggy Sim with nothing in her inventory at all and see if it makes a difference. I approve you running a few tests without saving since it's a challenge character and normally you would not be able to do that. But, I'm trying to see what's at the root of these issues for you.

Thanks, Tom, I will try that.  Now that her inventory has been cleaned out anyway ...  ::)

Try and put the same stuff in there that you remember from before. Or at least some of the items. Maybe you could eventually narrow it down to a likely culprit. With all of your traveling woes I think next year's 2011 Tournament will kick off with Schipperke's Anti-Traveling Challenge!  ;D

Oh yeah, I'm becoming quite the expert on this!   ;D  Does it matter whether there's stuff in the family inventory?

Edit:  I'm not sure I know where to start with this, as there was a lot of stuff in her inventory - all the fish, bait, a whole bunch of books she'd written, and the other things I've mentioned.  I do know there were no seeds, as I've heard of problems from seeds in the inventory.  Do you think I need to try to recreate everything that she had or are there some likely suspects I should focus on?

My gut feeling is family inventory is not the source of the problem because the Buy screen/family inventory is out of commission while traveling anyway. I would concentrate your testing on personal inventory first, and then if you come up with no discoveries, then yeah — try removing items from family inventory before leaving your home town to see if it makes a difference.

I really don't know. I wish I could offer more direction. Make sure to take the glitched Sim on a vacation with at least one other Sim. The first thing I would try would be to move everything out of your glitched Sim's inventory to the other Sim before traveling home. If it's smooth sailing for both, then maybe there's some weird result of the glitched Sim's traits and inventory items. Who knows?

I've had a ton of problems with traveling in the past, but nothing similar to what you have mentioned.  I will say that I have certainly experienced buggy fish, and I wouldn't at all be surprised if that was the issue.

I realize that this thread is old but thought I would add to it.
My sim parents just went on a  "won free vacation"  They both came back and both have nothing left in their inventory. Completely empty.  I am all patched up with Generations installed.

When my immortal dynasty has been on a trip all sims in the household has decreased hunger bar when the travellers return. Oh well unlike some of the nastier bugs this is easy fixable by a trip to the fridge. It is just so hillarious to see a sim about to put his plate in the dishwasher after finishing a meal and she is still starving...

I had the same bug that Schipperke mentioned above last week. I sent my sim to China and he was not there, not even the icon. Then I started a new file in the same town (Barnacle Bay) and sent the sim to France... same problem. So then I thought maybe the town itself was bugged... and bingo! Moved my sim to Twinbrook and all problems were gone.

Now that same sim's wife is walking like a ghost in Champs Les Sims but at least that's a minor bug. As long as it doesn't mess up anything else I can bare with it. But I'm also having issues with stuff purchased abroad not showing up in my family inventory. They say the last patch fixed it but I'm scared if I patch up it will mess something else and get me into more trouble  ::) .
