Family Trees and Home Graves

If a family with lot is moved to another town and they have a family graveyard, while the family tree linking to the those deceased remain intacted?

When I last did this they didn't stay intact.

It did stay intact in my case. This is how Christopher Steel, who's deceased, is still marked as the father of the second generation in my dynasty.

I've never tried moving the entire lot with a family grave yard on the lot, but I know that moving just the family to another town severs the family ties, even if a sim has the remains in their inventory.  So...perhaps that's the trick right there.

It won't work with the tombstone(s) in the personal inventory, as far as I know. It only works when the gravestone is on the ground and maybe when it is in the family inventory (not sure about the last option). So yeah, that's the trick.
