Show me your vacation homes!
« on: February 18, 2010, 07:34:13 PM »
I've just reached Visa level 3 in China and am wondering where to purchse my home in Shang Simla. I've already got one in Champs Les Sims (will get a pic of which soon), it's a bi-level on the river with what looks like a field of blue flowers out back. Its now a tri-level, since I buried a basement in the river slope. Egypt will be coming soon after.

So...show me your vacation homes! I don't care where. Did you buy it pre-made? Build on an empty lot? What have you done with it? Why?

I've only purchased one vacation home and that was in China.  I chose a pre-built home right in town.  I don't recall the name of it, but there are two houses that are almost identical on each side of town and it's one of those.  I didn't change much with the structure of the house, but I redecorated it with all of my Chinese furnishings, including the Asian Fusion set that I bought at the Sims 3 Store.  The yard is mostly concrete, so I pulled up part of it to make a yard for a garden.  On the other side of the house, I put double pools on either side of the entry walkway.  It was really lovely.

Beware of vacation homes.  I started having major glitches in my game after I purchased one.  My sim who held the deed ended up so bugged that he could no longer travel at all.  Whenever he would try he would simply never load up into the foreign locale.  The only way I could keep him was to revert back to my previous save, and even then his family tree was so bugged that nothing would happen when I clicked on it.  Now, I did make him before the more recent patches, and he has since passed away, but after looking up similar issues on the Sims 3 forums it seems a lot of other people were having the same problem, and the only common thread was the purchase of a vacation home.

I have a sim who has vacation homes in all 3 locations and so far, so good.  It was a little tense when her first vacation home I built in China on an empty lot.  It was a lovely little house with a garden in the back yard and then the Chinese confiscated it. :o

I'm pretty much over that now but I have found you have to be very careful where you build.  I now just buy the premades and remodel them.

I'll have to get pics and post them. ;D

Bshag, why did China take it away? Never heard of that.

I've had no problems with vacation homes myself, but I run a Mac so we get our own sets of issues ;)

The house I bought in Shang Simla turned out to be one of the ones Pam mentioned, mine's the one called "Lotus House." Aside from upgrading some of the furnishings it's still largely as I bought it, though I do like the idea of the landscaping and Asian Fusion set.

All that's left now is Egypt which is funny, no Visa 3 there yet though I've spent the most time there :( I even did the Great Pyramid adventure! C'mon, Egyptians!
