How do I put caught fish in the fish bowl?

My child sim caught a minnow and wanted to put it in their fish bowl, but I can't figure out how, can anyone help?

After you've purchased a fish bowl, just click and drag the fish over the bowl. When you let go, it will appear in the bowl

I tried that over and over and it wouldn't work, yet when the mam bought a goldfish from the shop that worked, when I click on the minnow using the child from the inventory a hand doesn't appear, the little star thing appears and my only options are to name, sell or count fish.

It sounds like the fish may be stuck in your inventory. This has been happening to me a bit lately. For example, in my current game I have a child with a piece of pizza stuck in the inventory. I have the options of "Eat" or "Bring Pizza to...", but I cannot drag it out of the inventory.

Yeah it must be that, I ended up buying a goldfish and putting that in then just sent the minnow to be mounted lol

There should also be the option the "Stock" the fishbowl when you click on the bowl. This will then bring up a list of all the fish in that Sim's inventory and you can choose which fish to place into the bowl. I've never tried this with a child Sim so I'm not sure it works for them but it definitely works for YA and older Sims.
