Basement issues...arrrgh!
« on: January 30, 2010, 01:42:45 PM »
Hello all, I'm new here! TS3 was the first Sims game I ever played, and I love it to absolute death. I just moved my family of Sims to the Villa Alto house downtown. Reason being, I want to be able to make the biggest basement I can in the game(given that's the biggest lot in Sunset Valley, or so I think...if there's a bigger one, let me know). I want the biggest and best. xD  Enya Gaia is a collector...gems and relics everywhere. I won't rest until she has EVERYTHING. I'm a collector in real life, so I guess it makes sense why I'm a little obsessed.

Anyway, I tried placing a basement as soon as I got there. Pool blocked it. So I took out the pool. Now it says it can't place the basement because of being covered by floor tiles or something. So I take all the floor tiles off that part of the property.

Then it spits at me about not being able to 'move terrain under object.' So I take all the objects off that part of the land. Same thing. WTH?

Also, is it just me, or is it darn near impossible to move walls after you've placed a basement? I have a heck of a time getting a full-sized basement unless I make it as big as I want it when first placing it. But now I can't because of this annoying error.

I'm raging at my computer right now, and need suggestions.  ???  Thanks in advance.

Hmm, you can't resize basement edge walls, instead, you can go 1 floor up, turn on the basement tool and add more squares, or use the demolishing tool and delete squares.
As for lot, i think the one next to the alto's is equally big, you know, the 14k empty lot.
I may be wrong tho.

I have been able to resize basement walls on occasion, it's just extremely difficult. The drag tool thing doesn't respond very well. I was capable of making the basement smaller with that, but getting it bigger..different story.

On another note, why was Villa Alto vacant and available for purchase? Don't the Altos live there?

Uncontrolled sims sometimes move around just for the heck of it, even if it means moving to poorer houses.

As for the OP question, I agree with TGBlank. Whenever I resize basements I also go one level up and add/delete basement squares, I didn't know it was possible to do it any other way, and if you have difficulty altering your basement maybe you chould try that technique? It may perhaps prove simpler than you expected.

Yay, it worked! I was able to keep the pool, building the basement around it. Why the heck didn't I think of trying that? I can be so dense sometimes.  :D

Welcome to our Forum, Tiberium!

I do believe the empty lot on Summerhill Court is as big as the Alto lot next door.  Both lots are 60 x 60, which is the biggest in Sunset Valley.  The empty lot would make the basement a piece of cake, but then you'd have to built the rest of the house as well.  But glad you got your situation worked out!
