Can't control sim
« on: June 16, 2011, 07:43:53 AM »
I opened my decadynasty file this morning and found I couldn't control any of the sims in my household. Where their pictures should be on the left hand side were just green boxes. Has anyone else come across this or know how to fix it. For some reason a backup save file has not been generated. I have one previous save but this is doing the same thing.

Have you travelled with this save file?  I get this error after going on vacation.  Unfortunately, the only way I've found to save it is to move to a new hood, which is not allowed for the decadynasty.

SRoberts, I had this problem, too, but was able to revert to my .backup file.  Wonder why yours didn't save a .backup.

Another symptom I experience with this was that 2 of my sims were assigned different, random, computer-generated names everytime I loaded the game!  So of course resetSim didn't work, because the cursor thought my characters were Bobbly Elmore or Clara Elder.

I tried many, many things to try and fix/work around this, but nothing worked.

Not very helpful, but you're not alone!!

I have encountered this problem 3 times since installing the new patch for Generations. One instance occurred in a game I started long ago, the others occurred in a game I started after installing Generations. It is terribly frustrating. For me, it's happened after travelling--in one case immediately after, in others a few days later.

I have just gone back to earlier saves each time. And my sims will not be travelling for a long while.

For what it's worth, I play on a Mac, with WA, LN, Ambitions and Generations. No mods, no CC.

I have done a complete uninstall/reinstall but not downloaded the latest update. I means I can't play my previous save file, but I've started a new game and so far no problems.
