About Transfiguration

Note that the display case can only work with cut gems and smelted metals. It is however possible to use random items like artifacts to allow your Sim to transfigure mysterious Mr. Gnomes. There are other transfiguration possibilities as well, such as fragments your Sim can assemble to create new items, along with ancient coins, but these recipes can't yet be confirmed.

^that recipe list seems pretty accurate

Nice, easy way to make cash getting that uncut tiberium for only $5,000 worth of merchandise. So with a spire cut and a couple days' time you turn $11,500 into $30k+

I like that it makes it simpler to get sarcophagus of kings.. but quite the money sink. Still, I find myself looking for things to do with all that cash...

The nectar bottles seem a waste, as I imagine they don't age, and even if they did it would take a long time to recover the loss.

Why do you imagine they don't age?
And with a 10% extra value per day, even if the bottle is worth 75k (lowest value given by that link) it would age for 7.5k a day.
That's a really nice amount per day, and in less than two weeks, you break even.

They age at 10% of base value. I  found one of those premade bottles in my Sim's inventory. Its current value was 169. It ages at +4 per day, meaning the base is 40. So the bottles that cost $75,000 will have a base lower than the state we'll get them in, because they've already been aging for hundreds of years. So I doubt we'd see +7500 a day but you may be right in that it might not take as long as I think to age them to the point of seeing a return on investment.

When I'm done with my current adventuring phase, I'll turn in some of my high-dollar stuff and see what comes out of these bottles.

Actually, wrong. Tomb and transfigurified nectar ages at 10% the value they had when you found/created them. So if you transfig a 50k bottle, it is going to age at 5k per day when put into a rack.

Oh man, really!? And all this time I have just thrown away all bottles I've made with this technique, and reloaded in an attempt to get skull cuts?

Yes you wasted that time, but more importantly....

Why are you using random item transfigurification to get skull cuts? (it doesn't give skull cuts)
For skulls, just put 8 gems, 5 different cuts, and puff, skull cut of (randomly chosen gem type from the 8, use the same for all 8 to ensure specific gem).
For large soulpiece, make sure there's more than 2 cuts, less than 5, and 5 or more gem types.

I know that, it was just an example of stuff I get when I just toy around with the transfiguration. If I really want a skull cut, I do it by the rulebook (thanks Carl for that awesome guide!).
