How to remove the floortiles that form underneath platforms?

A search yielded no results so hopefully this question hasn't been asked yet.

I was wondering how you remove the floortiles that are created underneath platforms if you build them above ground level.

Because my attempts to remove them never worked out I was under the impression that it was impossible. However, when I looked through the Swap Shop I saw some creations of Danefaith (Niobium and Sforzando) where platforms were used as roof-sections or overhangs. In his screenshots there did not appear to be any tiles under the platforms.

Is this just bad eye-sight on my end or is there really a way to remove these floortiles?

I don't know if this will work, but have you tried dropping down a level and then using the hammer tool?  I've had to do this sometimes when something didn't quite fit.
