Cookin' Cable
« on: January 23, 2010, 12:44:12 PM »
There has been a lot of talk about the recipies.
I just wanted to let you all know my sim without the Natural Cook trait, learned egg rolls from the TV. The TV was one of the middle class ones. My sim was a Young Adult with level 7 or so cooking.
So it is possible for that to happen. I bet it's just on random, and seeing as you had written down that you thought it was for sims with the Natural Cook trait, I thought I would inform you so you can make your guild as acurate as allowed. :)
Hopefully this is of some help.

Small corrections are sometimes just as important to a person's gaming strategy as large ones!

:) I agree, maybe I'm not the only one...
then again I have World Adventures (obviously) because she learned egg rolls. I'm trying to figure out if its a glitch or if someone without the trait can easily learn something from cookin cable. :)

Oh no, it's probably not a glitch. However, it wouldn't surprise me if sims with the trait is more inclined to learn recipes from the TV, but it would be unusual for the developers to make that option completely closed for others.

I've had Sims without the Natural Cook trait learn recipes on Cookin' Cable.  I'll ask Carl to update the guide.  Thanks!

It's definitely not a glitch, it's a bonus to watching Cookin' Cable with the Natural Cook trait, that on rare occasion the sim learns a recipe. You can also discuss food or something with other Natural Cooks and learn recipes from them.

Again, here, the Sim doesn't have to be a Natural Cook to share kitchen secrets with other Sims.  It comes after a certain level of cooking skill.

Seriously? Man, that's like the second time I've said something that turned out to be completely wrong! Shows how much I've yet to learn! Did this ability come in a recent patch, because I've had a level 10 cooking skill with a sim once a while back and I never noticed this ability.

I don't know how long it's been available.  But I'm pretty certain that my surgeons could use that interaction and they got opportunities to exchange cooking tips with other cooks in town.  Neither of them have the Natural Cook trait, but they did their own cooking all the time and reached levels 5 and 6 during their medical careers.  I'll see if I can double check it.

Cool, I guess it's true, you learn something everyday!

I thought they couldn't because it seems more rare without the trait. Also having a higher level would make more recipes available for learning from television, which may boost the rate. I probably wouldn't buy a recipe book until level 10 and then might use tv for fun as a means of possibly getting the ambrosia recipe for free.

Anyway, corrected/clarified. Thanks :)
