Sim won't learn traits

I made a new family today and my sim won't learn anyone's traits! There are two friends living together, one is fine, but the other can talk to people for hours, using all the social interactions, and doesn't learn any of their traits. I know I can get the observant wish to help with learning the first three, but why doesn't it work normally? I have a small amount of CC, all from the sims3 website, some of which is new today (therefore coinciding with the problem)....could that be causing it?

I've never had this problem before, although I've almost always had a sim with friendly/charismatic traits and this is the first time I've made a sim with neither. I expected it to be harder to make friends, but I figure it's unlikely that it should prevent trait-learning like this!

Anyone got any ideas?

Welcome to our Forum, jynnx.

Newly installed CC could very well be the cause of the problem.  We don't recommend or condone the use of any third party custom content for this exact reason.

You could try uninstalling the mods/CC an restarting the game.

Well, it could be CC, as Pam said, or maybe it could be that you need to use "Get To Know" quite a bit before it works. Also, try talking about "Gardening," "Cooking" or another skill or trait related interaction, to see if that shows any traits.
