Help...gaining skills problem
« on: May 07, 2011, 07:19:24 AM »
Okay this is the first time I've ever played in Twinbrook so I'm not sure if it's the town or what. I know I looked it up and tried to find an answer but never really got a straight one. I made these two sims in a CAS then moved them into a house. First problem the guy sim, when I took him to the gym, he woudn't gain his skill level up. The little meter never moved. But all the while I have my girl sim at home and she's gaining skills in writing. So the next day I sent her to the gym to see if that worked....no problem she gained her skill just fine. So then I had him come home from work and get a handy skill from a book. Again no problem. So I sent him to the place where you can pay to get your athlete skill up. He went through the class and nothing! No skill gain whatsoever and a little message didn't even come up saying he got the skill. So I sent him home. I had my girl at home watching the cooking channel so I had him join. Her skill was going up just fine. But him, there was no little bar above his head at all. So now I'm frustrated.

So I go back to edit town and and place a copy of the two sims I made in another house to see how that would work. Now neither one of them can gain athlete skill at the gym. And neither one of them can gain a cooking skill from the t.v. There are not even any bars above them when their watching it. What's up? Can I fix this? Should I move towns? Or should I just scrap this couple and start over?

The only other time I had a problem with this is when I had a vampire sim and changed her back to normal. Since then I haven't tried that again. But I've never had a promblem like this up until now.

And before you ask... I have no CC...no mods...and loaded up with all the current patches. I did download some stuff from the sims store though.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks.

What you could try is to maybe put them in another town and see if the same thing happens.  I have not played Twinbrook for a while, but when I did play it, I had alot of issues with it.  I do know that there has been some known glitches with the gym, not sure if it is the same thing you are experiencing.  If you place them in another town and it does not happen, then maybe it is Twinbrook.  Just a suggestion. :)

Thanks so much I was just getting ready to do that. I tried leaving the game of course and nothing changed. So I deleted the extra family I had and tried going into a pre-made household and they were fine. So I went back into my orginal game again and as soon as I came back my guys cooking jumped up two levels and now he's getting cooking from the t.v. Yah! So I take him back to the gym...no go. So I take her back to the gym the next day while he was a work and again she didn't have a problem. So when my guy got home I bought him a treadmill and put it in the house. Now it works. So I guess leaving and coming fixed some of the problem and the other was I guess the gym just doesn't work for him. Figures...I made this guy after a real guy I know and he doesn't like the gym either....guess the game was telling me something. LOL. But if I have any more problems I'm probably just going to move towns. I don't think I'm really liking Twinbrook anyway.

Thanks

I have had a similar issue come up where one of my sims couldn't gain any skills at all.  I just went back to an earlier save before the problem happened and it didn't pop up again.  I was also playing in Twinbrook.  My sim was a vampire, but I had not converted them back to a normal sim.

It's not the town.

There's a bit of an odd, random glitch where fresh sims cannot learn certain skills.  The big one, in my experience, seems to be athletics.  However, I never had a problem with it until after I got Late Night, so I'm firmly convinced that it is somehow related to the vampire glitch.

This glitch either happens from the start, or it doesn't happen at all.  And once it happens, the only way to fix it is to start over from the beginning.  In the case of former vampires, you need to revert to a save when they were still a vampire and un-vamp them again (always save just before you drink the potion).  The last time this bug hit me, I had to restart 6 times before I was free of it.

The easiest way to test a new game for this bug is to send them to the gym first thing.  If their athletics increases, you're good to go.  If it doesn't, exit without saving and start again.
