Launcher won't autoupdate game.

Hi,

   I'm having a little issue with the Launcher.  I was having this issue before and decided to do a clean reinstall.  The launcher reports that The Sims 3 version is 0.0.0.0    I've gone through the entire process of cleaning things up before reinstalling.  Including doing it for the EA Download Manager.   I've only got the digital download copy of the game through EA so I have to have it installed.  I've got all the expansion packs except for High End Loft Stuff.  And they are all updated to the latest versions and the game itself runs just fine.  My problem is that whenever there is an update for the game I have to manually download the patches because the launcher won't download them.  Though it does constantly say that a patch is available.

  Normally this wouldn't be an issue, but the game is installed on my Son's computer and I don't normally play the game so I don't know about the patches until long after they've been released.  And it would be nice if this would work properly for him.  I did do an install of the game on my computer and it doesn't have any launcher issues.

So, just to clarify, you're asking if there is any fix for the launcher not downloading and installing a patch?

I'm a little confused about the problem.  Have you already reinstalled the game after uninstalling and cleaning up?  Is it the Sims 3 launcher that reports the version is 0.0.0.0?

  Yeah I'm looking for a fix for the launcher not downloading and installing patches automatically like it's supposed to do.

  And yes I completely uninstalled the game, all the expansions, and EADM.  Rebooted.  Cleaned the registry.  Rebooted again.  Reinstalled the latest EADM, because I purchased the sims 3 through EA.  Dumb I know.  Reinstalled The sims 3.  Patched it, and the launcher now says that the version is 0.0.0.0 when I hover over the little icon in the bottom left.  Which is exactly what it was doing before.  So when I install World Adventures and run the launcher to patch it to the most current version the launcher tells me World Adventures needs to be patched in order for me to play it but the launcher won't automatically start the patch like it did for the base game.   And when I go to the update tab I can select the patch and hit the download button but nothing happens.

Bachlott, there is a folder called skuversion.txt in your Sims folders. (Default location is C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin\skuversion.txt for the base game. Replace "The Sims 3" with the names of EP's and SP's).

If you open that, you can see your game version. Does that also read Version: 0.0.0.0?

How many times have you reinstalled the game?  Also, when you open the launcher and click the button that says Game Updates, There's a click box that says Automatic Updates.  Is that box clicked?

I read about this on the official forum. It seems that the 0.0.0.0 is just a graphical glitch,  but I think it's something else. I'll see if I can find the thread.

I wasn't as concerned about the 0.0.0.0 as I am about the launcher auto-update feature not functioning.  I simply included the 0.0.0.0 as that was the only other defect I could see and wasn't sure if that was related to the real issue.

If it is a real hassle, you could just manually update the game. I asked questions about patching a while back, as CAW wasn't working. The thread is here.
It's not that hard to do, and it's all done through EA. So no risk of downloading viruses, or stuff like that.

A couple of questions: 

1)  When you uninstalled the sims, did you uninstall the EADM (Electronic Arts Download Manager) as well? 

2)  Where did the version of the version of the EADM that you have on your computer actually come from?  Did it come with The Sims 3, or did you have a version of it from a previous EA game?

If you haven't done so yet, I would suggest uninstalling the EADM (not the entire game, just the download manager), and install the version you download here.  It can't hurt to have the most up-to-date version of it anyways.
